Madonna has been given an appeal date of 4 May to try and overturn a judge’s decision to deny her bid to adopt Malawian child Mercy James, a court official announced this week. Madonna’s application was rejected as under the African country’s law prospective parents must be residents in the state for at least 18 months. Madonna’s lawyer on the case, Alan Chinula, said he was hopeful of a successful appeal, saying the initial rejection was based “on an archaic law of over 50 years ago”. In the meantime, Madonna’s former chef Eric Ineco accused his former boss of spending just 30 minutes a day with her children, as the rest of the day is spent working out. Ineco said, “When she adopted little David, he arrived at her home from Africa – and three hours later, she left to do Pilates. Wouldn’t you think that sheds want to spend the entire day with her new son?" He continued, adding, “That’s why it’s a puzzle she wants to adopt again. She’s hardly ever with her children. She’s got two full-time nannies and one part-time nanny. So why adopt a kid if somebody else is raising them?”

Rubina Ali’s father has denied the heart-breaking story that he tried to sell the child actress for £200,000 in a News Of The World ‘Fake Sheikh’ sting. The paper claimed that Rafiq Qureshi had demanded the sum from journalists, posing as a wealthy family from Dubai, to sell his daughter into adoption. However, the father has denied their claims in an interview with BBC News, calling their undercover operation “dirty” and accusing them of “making fun of our poverty”. “They tricked us into this fakery but we came out unscathed,” Quershi, a Mumbai carpenter explained. “In the phone calls they said a wealthy Arab couple had been moved to see the plight of Rubina on al-Jazeera TV. The Sheikh and his wife decided to help them out. And then we agreed to meet them.” Mr Quershi admitted meeting two men and a “memsaab”, a term often used in India for a white woman, three times. “They made a call to someone, introducing himself as the memsaab’s husband, the sheikh saab, and asked me to talk to him. In broken Hindi he thanked me for letting Rubina come to Dubai to live. It was then that it occurred to me they were making a deal on my child. I put the phone down and told them we were leaving the hotel. They played dirty with us, but we didn’t accept any money from them. My daughter is not for sale.”

Perez Hilton and Miss USA hopeful, Miss California Carrie Prejean, this week after her less-than-perfect answer to a question presented to her by Hilton. Self-proclaimed Queen Of All Media, Perez Hilton, said that Miss California Carrie Prejean, was a ‘dumb bitch’ after judging the famous beauty pageant. At the Las Vegas contest last weekend, Prejean was asked by judge Perez for her views on legalising same sex marriage, but caused a stir when she said, “In my country, and in my family I think I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.” She later lost out to Miss Carolina, Kristen Dalton and has since blamed the question for hurting her chance. “It did cost me my crown,” she told Fox News. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.” She later added, “I feel like I won, I feel like I’m the winner. I really do.” However, in a video blog Hilton let his feelings on the event be known. “She lost not because she disagrees with same sex marriage, she lost because she’s a dumb bitch! Her answer alienated so many people. If that girl would have won Miss USA I would have run up on stage and ripped that tiara off her head.” He later told TV anchor Larry King, “It was the worst answer in pageant history.” Other celebrities also waded into the gay marriage debate, with Miley Cyrus tweeting to Perez “Jesus loves you AND your partner and wants you to know how much he cares!”, The Hills star Heidi Montag also tweeted her views, “God says in the bible that we should love our neighbour and he created us all as equals.” And when asked her thoughts on the subject Britney Spears simply said, “Love is love!
