Insiders said Katie was already concerned about a public backlash since the split in May, but decided to step up security having been called a “slag” and a “bitch” while watching boyfriend Alex Reid cage fighting last weekend. “The mood has turned so ugly towards her that she really thinks someone could try to hurt her, so she is looking twice at her security.” On the other hand, Katie’s pals are concerned about her having a breakdown after she did a disappearing act for 24 hours last Friday.

Bruce Forsyth leapt to the defence of new Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon yesterday and urged viewers to “give her a chance”. The show’s host stuck up for the new judge after the BBC received 960 complaints from viewers about her performance last weekend. “The show has been so hyped up this year and the criticism of Alesha has been unnecessarily harsh. She should be given a chance – the girl’s got guts,” Brucie said at a workshop for BBC staff. Alesha hit back at her critics earlier in the week claiming that she will bring more to Strictly Come Dancing than Arlene Phillips ever did because of her time as a contestant.

Sugababe Heidi Range has spoken for the first time about Keisha Buchanan’s departure from the band, saying, “we couldn’t work together any more.” The singer, who replaced original member Siobhan Donaghy in 2001 and is now the band’s longest serving member, told the Sun that the atmosphere had been bad between the girls for several months. “It suddenly came to a head last week, me and Amelle knew we couldn’t move forward the way it was, we couldn’t work together any more.” Keisha wrote on her Twitter following the announcement of the split on Monday, “I would like to state that there were no arguments, bullying or anything of the sort that led to this. Sometimes a break down in communication and lack of trust can result in many different things.”

Patrick Swayze recorded an audio version of his memoirs for his fans as a goodbye gift. The Dirty Dancing star, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last week, just managed to complete his autobiography before he passed away. Perez Hilton reports, “Fans of Patrick should know that the actor did an emotional and heartfelt reading of his new autobiography that is said to give you chills.” The audio version will be released with the hardback 29 September. In the book Swayze apparently talks about his frustration with Jennifer Grey’s constant mood swings on the Dirty Dancing set, and his wish to be a father. “I wanted to be the best father I could be, the kind of father my dad had been to me. [After the miscarriage] I felt completely crushed with grief. We wanted to try again, but the loss had been so devastating that we just couldn’t do it right away. We figured we had plenty more years ahead of us. Eventually, we did start trying again hoping Lisa would get pregnant. She never did.”

Pop legend Madonna has said that Michael Jackson’s shyness stopped the pair from collaborating. “We became friends. I wrote a bunch of words and presented them to him but he didn’t want to go there,” Madonna told the Daily Record. “I said, ‘Well, why come to me?’ That’s like asking Quentin Tarantino to not put violence in his films. Peter Andre has said his recent experiences remind him of Cheryl Cole’s run of luck last year, New magazine reports. Cheryl pushed through her marriage problems last year to become a judge on The X Factor, and now Andre has admitted that his split from Katie has had a similar impact on his career. “It’s funny because I remember Cheryl Cole saying last year that she’d had the best and worst year of her life, what with Ashley allegedly cheating on her and her huge success on The X Factor, and I feel a bit like that at the moment,” he wrote in his weekly column. Funny though, we can only imagine that Cheryl would be humble about the success she had after Ashley’s alleged affair. Maybe that’s where the two differ?
