Britney told to hand over children

Los Angeles superior court commissioner Scott Gordon has ordered that Spears' equal custody arrangement be revised until further notice.

Court documents state that Federline is "to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday October 3rd 2007…until further order of the court".

Another hearing into the Baby One More Time star's custody battle is scheduled for tomorrow.

Spears' former spouse had asked the courts to grant him more time with his children due to his concern for their wellbeing during their time with their mother.

The same judge earlier told Spears that she was a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of alcohol and controlled substances and ordered her to appear for random drug tests twice a week.

The pop princess was also directed to enrol in one-to-one counselling sessions on childcare issues and to meet with a parenting coach every week, who will assess the singer's progress.

Spears was recently charged with misdemeanour hit-and-run for driving without a valid California driver's licence. She could face up to six months in jail and be forced to pay a $1,000 (£500) fine if convicted.

The star's manager and lawyer have also recently ended their association with her.
