Australian radio DJ's Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O'Neil have had their radio show pulled off air after a lie detector stunt saw a 14-year-old girl confess to having been raped. The girl appeared on the Sydney 2Day FM show with her mother, who had volunteered the pair to take part. The radio show saw the girl strapped to a polygraph machine as her mother questioned her about her sexual activity despite apparently knowing she had been raped when she was just 12-years-old. Host Kyle Sandilands attracted further criticism following her confession when he asked: "Right, and is that the only sexual experience you've had?" Co-host Jackie O'Neil promptly ended the interview. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd led the calls for the show to be stopped. "This is a young girl and I am, as I think most Australians are, really distressed at the way in which the young person has been treated in this way," he said before the station announced it is to put the show "into recess" while it conducts a review of the incident. Sandilands has also been fired from his role as a judge on Australian Idol. "It has become increasingly clear that as Idol has remained a family focused show, his radio persona has taken on a more controversial position," the show's makers, The Ten Network, said in a statement. "The recent controversy surrounding Kyle's radio programme has highlighted more than ever the conflicting attitude of the two careers." The Kyle and Jackie O Show is the highest-rating breakfast radio programme in Sydney.
