Actor Brad Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie have finally welcomed their twins to the world in a southern France hospital. Breaking the celeb trend for stupid baby names, Knox Leon and sister Vivienne Marcheline were delivered by caesarean on Saturday, doctor Michel Sussman told press. Brad was by Angelina's side during the operation the doctor confirmed adding, "He was perfectly calm and everything went well. The parents and the babies are in excellent health." Knox topped the scales at 5lb 3oz while Vivienne weighed in at 5lb.
It had been rumoured Angelina was to be induced on Tuesday but Dr Sussman said the birth had been moved forward "for medical reasons" but didn't elaborate further. The couple chose to honour their families when naming the twins. Vivienne Marcheline is named after Angelina's late mother Marcheline Bertrand while Knox has Brad's grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse's middle name. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who last week announced the twins will be honorary citizens of Nice, delivered the twins' birth certificates to hospital. "It's a happy day for Mrs Angelina Jolie and all the citizens of Nice," he said. Meanwhile the Nice Matin, the local newspaper, has claimed that the rights for the first images of the pair have already been sold to a US magazine. The fee is rumoured to be £7.5m and, as with the money paid for the first snaps of their big sister Shiloh, all the cash will be donated to charity.
