After failing to win any awards at the MTV awards show, Kanye West accused organisers of exploiting Britney Spears by allegedly putting pressure on her to perform even though she was not ready. West also stated that he felt "betrayed" by the US television station, claiming other stars were given a better opportunity than him to perform at the ceremony.
People magazine reports 50 Cent as saying that West was "not used to not being recognised", adding that his rival's hopes of opening the show were unjustified.
The Candy Shop star told KIIS-FM radio: "He expressed that he felt that Britney shouldn't be actually opening the show - almost like he forgot that Britney Spears sold 50 million records.
"He is not thinking about her full body of work. She deserved to headline the show better than anybody else that was on it - even in the state that she is in," said the man known as Fiddy to his fans.
He also made light of West's promises to boycott MTV saying: "I don't think he can. I don't think it's possible. I think he [got] carried away in the moment. MTV doesn't need him," he explained.
The two music industry rivals' albums were launched in the US this week, with 50 Cent vowing to never record solo material again if his record Curtis was outsold by West's Graduation.
West will be performing at this Sunday's Emmy awards, which recognise the best shows on television.
