It\'s handbag.com\'s 10th birthday! To celebrate, the handbag.com staff reveal what they were doing way back in 1999, kicking off with fashion director Belinda White...

I was working at Vogue as a fashion assistant which meant travelling the world to seriously glamorous locations and meeting world famous photographers and models on a regular basis. I was young, free, single and out every night. Where did it all go wrong?! I joke, of course. I now have a gorgeous husband, two beautiful kids and all that seems a lifetime ago.

In 1999 I was working as a junior writer on Top Of The Pops magazine (Dan worked there with handbag.com\'s production editor Steve Smith - bless! Dan is the butch naval officer while Steve is the rugged Native American - Ed.) attending the show\'s recording every week at Elstree studios and organising photo shoots and interviews with big stars like Robbie, Madonna, Paul McCartney, J Lo, Aqua, etc. Happy days.

Ten years ago I was 17 and treading the boards of my local am-dram society as Laurie in Oklahoma! Oh yes, life upon the wicked stage was going to be the future for me: the ridiculous costumes, the chorus that was always lacking in men (well, straight men, that\'s for sure) and avoiding the wandering hands of the married lead man. Boy, they were the days. Actually, not much has changed. Before I had my darling child - who by the way, may only be two but is clearly a musical genius - I could still be found on the boards and will hopefully be back there soon, fans!

I was 17 and in my senior year of high school in small town America, which was cringingly stereotypical. The films Dazed And Confused, Mean Girls and Juno (which takes place in my home state of Minnesota - you\'d have to be from there to get the references to Ridgedale Mall and drinking Boone\'s Farm in Mankato) pretty much sums it up. Through it all has been my friend Brigid (she\'s the one on the right). She\'s now a married mum-to-be (just like she always wanted) and I\'m a writer, living in London with a rock\'n\'roll boyfriend (just like I always wanted). Awkward teens from small towns, keep the faith! Dreams do come true!

I was doing work experience at a special effects and theatrical make-up company. It was so much fun. In between learning about how to make realistic-looking scabs and burns, my friend were let loose to get wiggy with it!  Underneath these plum curls I\'m a nerdy 16 year-old just about to embark on my A-levels. Looking at this picture makes me think how much has changed in the last ten years... obviously except the nerd part.

The last 10 years has passed in a blur - and for seven of them I have been lucky enough to be at handbag.com! In 1999 I was editing a (now defunct) magazine called Homes & Ideas and was knee deep in Changing Rooms-style makeovers and celebrity kitchens. I had two little girls who had just started school and a house in need of renovation but no will to do it, as the last thing I wanted to do when I got home from work was think about my own makeovers. But I do remember being in my office and visiting handbag.com when it launched and thinking it was really exciting and that I should really make more use of the internet. How life has changed...

I was at university in north London getting to grips with the student union, the underground, keeping awake in my compulsory economics class and sussing out the all the guys... I mean other students! Duffle coats, Timberland boots and combat trousers were apparently in. I was doing a Posh Spice - remember when she had the spiky hair, wore baggy trousers and vest tops? Yep, that was me, just maybe more chav than posh! Oops!

Ten short years ago I was production editor at Top Of The Pops magazine and lived 100 yards from the office. I was just about to leave the Beeb after 10 years and join the wonderful world wide web at worldpop.com, where the only downside would be no more lie-ins. Now, I\'m working on the internet again and back together with my girlfriend at the time, plus ça change!

Ten years ago I was 17 and just into my final year at sixth form college back up in the north east. I was finally growing out of my awkward adolescence, squirrelling away my family\'s brand new, for-emergencies-only, shared mobile phone every night to text boys, deciding which universities to apply to, and rocking an awesome "I\'m a grown-up now" haircut.

In 1999 I was just about to sit my GCSEs back home in Wales. My main interests at this point were being a grumpy teenager, punk rock and boys - although travelling to Australia and Japan just before my 16th birthday gave me the travel bug, and keeping a travel diary made me realise how much I wanted a career that allowed me to write. I can\'t believe that was a decade ago!
