Slumdog Millionaire beat off competition from the likes of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon and Revolutionary Road, and swept the Golden Globes winning four other trophies.

Best Film (Musical/Comedy)

Directed by Woody Allen and starring Penélope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson, the film beat competition from Burn After Reading, Happy-Go-Lucky, In Bruges and Mamma Mia!

Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire

The rags to riches tale about an improbable winner of game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire won four awards including Best Director, Best Film and Best Screenplay. “The film was made from the heart,” Boyle said when collecting his award. “Really we never expected to be here.”

Best Actor

Also nominated for the award were Leonardo DiCaprio for Revolutionary Road, Frank Langella for Frost/Nixon, Sean Penn for Milk and Brad Pitt for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.

Also nominated were Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married, Angelina Jolie for Changeling, Meryl Streep for Doubt and Kristin Scott Thomas for I’ve Loved You So Long.

Best Supporting Actor

Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan picked up the award on behalf of the late Heath Ledger and said, “For any of us lucky enough to work with him, I think for any of us lucky enough to have enjoyed his performances, he will be eternally missed.” He went on to add, “But he will never be forgotten.” Heath’s family were said to be “overjoyed” by his win.

Other actors nominated for the award were Tom Cruise for Tropic Thunder, Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder, Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess and Philip Seymour Hoffman for Doubt.
 

Best Supporting Actress

Kate Winslet for The Reader
Kate appeared to have the Midas touch at this year’s Golden Globes as this was her second win of the night.  “Is this really happening?” she asked with emotion, as she picked up her second win.  

Other nominees for Best Supporting Actress were Amy Adams for Doubt, Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Viola Davis for Doubt and Marisa Tomei for The Wrestler.
