The Brit Award winners 2010

brit awards 2010 lady gaga

Lady Gaga was the big winner at this year's Brit Awards. The charismatic singer won all three categories she was nominated for on the night. "I was really excited to win the first two awards," Gaga told the crowd when picking up her Best International Album Award. "This award means even more to me because I worked so hard on this album for so long." Earlier in the night she won International Breakthrough Act and Best International Female.

Elsewhere, JLS were named the Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Single for Beat Again, while Dizzee Rascal, Florence And The Machine and Lily Allen also won honours.

There was speculation Cheryl Cole wouldn’t perform after husband Ashley became embroiled in another sex scandal. But the X Factor judge went on stage giving it her all as she performed the rather poignant Fight For This Love. At the end of her performance Peter Kay said, “We’ve got to fight for this love. Never a truer spoken.” And what an entrance.

Gaga paid a touching tribute to Alexander McQueen with re-worked performance of Telephone and Dance in The Dark. The eccentric singer had originally planned an upbeat medley of hit but changed her plans after hearing of the designer’s death. After she sung the line, “we miss you so badly” the singer chocked back a tear and said, “This is for Alexander McQueen.”

Dizee Rascal and Florence & The Machine. Two totally different, but equally as talented artists collaborating. Would they pull it off? Would one over-shadow the other? Take a look. We think it’s pure genius.

International superstars Jay-Z and Alicia Keys hit the stage to perform their duet Empire State of Mind. We weren’t too sure about Alicia’s outfit choice – she looked a bit like she should be singing on a cruise ship - but Jay-Z was cool, as always. Outfits aside, theirs was probably the performance of the night.

Lily Allen, decked out in a black leather leotard, arrived on stage on top of a sparkly rocket to sing The Fear. Her set included some crazy props, including ten Dalmatian shirt-cladded women pushing prams, and soldiers falling from the rafters with pink umbrellas. The singer, who told press she was quitting music, then went on to win Best British Female – her first ever Brit Award.

After winning the Outstanding Contribution to Music award Robbie Williams provided the Brit audience with a medley of hits from his career.
