Media-shy British actor Daniel Day-Lewis picked up the award for Best Actor for his role as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood, a period piece about the early days of the American oil industry. Daniel paid tribute to Heath Ledger, praising his performance in Brokeback Mountain, say that it was ‘unique\' and ‘perfect\'. He also said, "That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I\'ve ever seen."

Members of the widely despised Westboro Baptist Church protested outside the ceremony, with signs saying Heath In Hell and God Hates The World. The Church is threatening to protest at Heath Ledger\'s funeral because he played a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain. These hate-filled people obviously have absolutely no comprehension of the teachings of Christianity, which are based on love and forgiveness.
