Winning a British Academy Film award can be a life and career changing moment for an actor. We caught up with the 2010 Bafta Leading Actor winner Colin Firth, Leading Actress Carey Mulligan, Director Kathryn Bigelow and Orange Rising Star Award winner Kristen Stewart to find out what it meant to them. Watch the video now.
Its awesome. Its also cool because the snooty film people have to put you on a list for the normal people to consider, teen star Kristen Stewart said of her Orange Rising Star award, the only category that is voted for by the public. Its the best of both worlds. Im really lucky that Im in a unique position. I have the Twilight following, but I also do the smaller movies too.
An Education star Carey Mulligan revealed how she felt her Leading Actress award was a win for everyone who had made the film. It meant a lot being with my family and all of [those who made An Education] being nominated for eight awards, she explained. I loved that we were recognised as a real crew.
Its just so, so gratifying, The Hurt Lockers director Kathryn Bigelow said of the five awards her film picked up on the night. This film seems to have touched a nerve and I can only hope its the beginning of closure on this particular conflict.
Meanwhile, Leading Actor winner Colin Firth honoured for his startling performance in A Single Man joked about whether he had a pre-written acceptance speech. Theres something slightly unseemly about preparing anything to say, Colin said. You dont want to jinx things. But when you get up there you really do regret the lack of preparation.
