2008 BAFTA awards
As well as being a glitzy award show in its own right, the BAFTAs have always been regarded as a clue as to who\'ll win at the Oscars. And with last night\'s awards throwing up a few surprises, everyone\'s sure to be guessing all the way to the big night. Take a look at this year\'s BAFTAs big winners.

BAFTA winner Atonement\'s Tim Bevan and Paul Webster
Atonement was always a good bet for the BAFTAs biggest prize. The movie version of Ian McEwan\'s classic story of love and regret in wartime England got the nod last night and is nominated for the same prize in the Oscars in two weeks.
bafta awards,Film,celebrity news,this is england
BAFTA winner This Is England\'s SHane Meadows and Mark Herbert
Set in 1983, This Is England is the gritty and brilliant story of an impressionable 13-year-old\'s entry into a skinhead gang. It\'s uncompromising stuff from Shane Meadows and Mark Herbert, but a deserving winner.
bafta awards,Film, celebrity news,no country for old men
BAFTA winner Joel Coen
Joel and Ethan Coen\'s No Country For Old Men has already won big at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. After their BAFTAs win for their story about a man dealing with the repercussions of finding $2million, the film making brothers must surely be feeling good about scooping the big one in a fortnight\'s time.

BAFTA winner Diablo Cody
Funny, quirky and a complete surprise. Former stripper Diablo Cody\'s story of 16-year-old Juno\'s unexpected pregnancy has delighted audiences and critics alike. The film\'s been nominated for four Oscars including best screenplay, it\'ll be a popular winner if it repeats this success.
bafta awards,Film,celebrity news,ratatouille
BAFTA winner Ratatouille
Despite being up against big hitters Shrek 3 and The Simpsons Movie, Pixar\'s story of a French, wannabe chef rat has now won a whopping 31 film awards already. You\'d have to think they\'ll take the Oscar too.
bafta awards,Film,celebrity news,daniel day-lewis,there will be blood
BAFTA winner Daniel Day-Lewis
Since critics first saw Daniel Day-Lewis\' powerhouse performance in There Will Be Blood, a turn of the century oil drama, big awards were predicted for the British thesp. He\'s followed Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award wins with a BAFTA, so you\'d have to say he\'s as near a dead cert for the Oscar as you can get.
Marion Cotillard,bafta awards,Film,celebrity news,la vie en rose
BAFTA winner Marion Cotillard
Up until last night Julie Christie had been picking up all the awards for her part in Away From Her. But the BAFTA judges decided that Marion Cotillard\'s portrayal of iconic French star Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose was the more worthy performance, and that\'s thrown the race for an Oscar wide open.
bafta awards,Film, celebrity news,no country for old men, javier bardem
BAFTA winner Javier Bardem
Just as Daniel Day-Lewis has dominated the lead actor\'s prizes so Spanish star Javier Bardem has with the supporting actor honours for his role of a psychotic killer in the Coen brothers\' No Country For Old Men. Expect to see him making a thank you speech again at the Oscars.
bafta awards,Film,celebrity news,tilda swinton,michael clayton
BAFTA winner Tilda Swinton
Cate Blanchett\'s role as Bob Dylan in I\'m Not There had been taking all the awards before last night but Londoner Tilda, perhaps getting some home advantage, was the shock of the night when she took the BAFTA home for her part in legal drama Michael Clayton.
