Theres a new kid on the block, and he looks set to steal Mikas pop crown. Italian-Irish Julian Perrettas debut single Wonder Why is out on 30 August, and and having supported Girls Aloud and Mark Ronson on tour, not to mention Perez Hilton blowing his trumpet, this new-kid looks like hell be leader of the pop pack before 2009 is through.
Wonder Why is a feel-good, kazoo-driven, piano stomp taken from Perrettas debut album, Out Of My Head, set for release on 6 September. The music, and the singer, reminds us of a mini-Mika, so it should be interesting to see who wins the battle of the pop gods this summer.
Perez Hilton has done wonders for many a singers career. He pimped up Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and Estelle and catapulted them into the world of celebrity via his blog Perezhilton.com. His latest Perez protégé? Julian Perretta. Hiltons hailed him as the next big thing calling him an artist you just cant get enough of. After Perezs push the singers MySpace reportedly went crazy pulling in 2.6 mil plays of his first single.
Perretta left school at 16 year-old to study drama at RADA, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. Having finished his studies he began writing and recordng material with Jameroquai members Matt Johnson and Rob Harriss, before being introduced to Girls Alouds manager Hilary Shaw. Julian then went on to support the five ladies on their Out Of Control tour (lucky lad) and hes also played with Mark Ronson, singing a cover of The Smiths Dont Stop Me.
Julians video for his debut single Wonder Why shows him playing the Kazoo. Seriously who do you know that can play the kazoo and still look cool?
Wonder Why, Julians debut single is set for release on 31 August 2009. His debut album, Out Of My Head which follows on 6 September, pre-order both here
