What's the story?
This trio, who defy the current crop of indie bands and actually sing rather than warble with a ridiculous accent, have topped the UK album charts with their debut album The Trick To Life and have had two Top 5 singles. It all looks bright for this bunch of Berkshire boys.
What's to like?
This album is seriously catchy, and their poppier rock songs, especially their first two singles Worried About Ray and Goodbye Mr A, will be stuck in your head all day. The ballads shows off singer Irwin Sparkes' voice the best, making him sound a bit like Jeff Buckley, especially on A Sadness Runs Through Him.
What's not to like?
Unfortunately, despite the catchiness of all these songs, most of them lack any real depth and are just too short. There is nothing that really draws you into the album and the rockier tunes all sound samey. Anybody else notice Worried About Ray = Goodbye Mr A?
Who would like it?
Well, enough people liked it to get it to No 1, but then that could have had something to do with releasing four different album covers. Talk about bleeding money from the die-hard fans. Other than that it will go to anyone who likes chirpy poppy indie pop like McFly.
Verdict?
If you like a good old indie-pop-rock-ballady song that will stay in your head all day then this album is full of them.
