What's the story?
Fresh from her strutting her funky stuff encased in Gucci at Fashion Rocks, Róisín Murphy brings you her new album, Overpowered. Her second solo album since she shot to stardom with the insanely catchy Moloko. This album is a complete tour de force, her best work. The lady herself co-wrote and co-produced the whole album working with the likes of Groove Armada's Andy Cato and Richard X, showing us that not only is she an amazing performer, creative gem but also a shrewd businesswoman.
What's to like?
Erm... like... all of it! It's a great blend of mellowed pop, uplifting dance anthems and dirty disco, funk that will not allow you to stand still. Let Me Know positively drags you off your seat to get you dancing. The hard opening of Movie Star slaps you around the face from the start and makes sure that you will be smiling until the last note. Dear Miami has all the chilled, sun kissed, cool that you would find in a Black Martini by the pool, on a rooftop on South Beach. In fact, every track stands on it own and could be released as a single.
What's not to like?
The only problem with the album is that Róisín is not here in person, performing it for real to you.
Who would like it?
If you like to hit the dancefloor, if you need to get your man to dance with you, if you sparkle like a mirror ball, if you sing in the shower, if you dance around your flat with the music on full blast, then you need to buy Overpowered!
Verdict?
This album gushes with so much cool originality, and has not left the handbag towers CD player since it arrived. We have a funny feeling that you will feel the same way!
