What’s the story?
Following a difficult and turbulent break from the music biz, the nation’s sweetheart Kylie is back this week with a new album X – her tenth (get it?) – and the pint-sized popstrel doesn’t disappoint...
Liking...
Like A Drug, The One, No More Rain – pretty much every perky minute! Comeback single 2 Hearts is glam pop at its very best, while Calvin Harris collaboration In My Arms is explosive. In fact, there are a few shrewd contributions littered throughout X, including ones from songwriting giant Guy Chambers and ex-squeaky-voiced-pop star Cathy Dennis – who also penned Kylie’s biggest hit to date, 2001’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.
What’s the verdict?
There’s no denying that X is oozing at the seams with X factor. There’s a deliciously retro vibe to the whole album that is both quirky and oh-so cool. Disco-tastic tracks throughout aren’t what you’d expect from a lady whose been to hell and back in the past few years – and that’s what’s so refreshing. Rather than creating a distinctly melancholy and reflective album (and we know how some popsters love to cash in on a personal trauma), Kylie has bounced back with an electrifying sweet melange of songs that just make you want to dance while grinning ear-to-ear. X proves to the world why Kylie is at the top of the pop game, and has been for two decades with no signs of slowing.
