What's the story?
José Gonzalez unexpectedly garnered worldwide success with his first album, ‘Veneer’ two years ago, thanks in part to his cover version of ‘Heartbeats’ being featured in a Sony Bravia advert.
Since then he’s gone on to win a shower of awards, collaborated with artists as diverse as Zero 7 and Plan B, and now he’s back with his second offering, ‘In Our Nature’ – a seductive, sombre and luxurious album that wraps you up in a warm musical duvet while simultaneously throwing in the occasional ‘right on’ message.
Best bit?
Once again he’s managed to blow us away completely with a cover - this time around it’s a beautiful folky rendition of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’ that does the business. Other highlights include the summery, ‘Time to Send Someone Away’ and the rousing closing track 'Cycling Trivialities' which packs a real lyrical punch.
Perfect for?
Rainy days, sunny days, sad days, happy days, thoughtful days and joyful days – it’s an all-weather, all-occasions, one-stop-shop of spiritually uplifting, soul-hugging songs…
