What's the story?
Re-rewind to 2000 and Craig David had just burst on to the scene with garage duo The Artful Dodger. His first solo single Fill Me In charted at No 1 in the same year. Several MOBO, Ivor Novello and MTV awards later the 26-year old Southampton R&B sensation has amassed £13m in worldwide album sales and is back with some say his best album since debut Born To Do It. Trust Me was recorded in Havana with heavyweight producers Martin Terefe and Fraser T Smith of Beyoncé fame.
Best bit
Top Of The Hill is stripped down, touching and deserves your full attention. The soulful Stevie Wonder-like Awkward pushes the right buttons and features 17-year-old one-to-watch Rita Ora from West London. Cuban flavours seep through in the jaunty 6 Of 1 Thing while the smooth Friday Night will get you in the mood.
Worst bit
Several, unfortunately. There's no disputing Craaaig David's amazing vocal range but a few tracks plod along with tiresome lyrics despite the excellent production. Kinda Girl For Me doesn't do it for this girl!
Who would like this?
One for the Christmas stocking of all his fans or best served with couple of drinks if you're home on a Friday night.
Verdict
After the first few tracks like guaranteed crowd-pleaser Hot Stuff (Let's Dance) - sampled from David Bowie's UK 1983 chart topper - it takes a slight turn for the worse. So avoid the fillers in the middle, kick back and enjoy.
