Tyrannosaur
Paddy Considine makes his directorial debut with Tyrannosaur, a hard-hitting film starring Olivia Colman, who we know and love from Hot Fuzz and Peep Show, assuming the role of Hannah, a Christian charity shop owner who befriends the drunk and tortured Joseph (Peter Mullan). Joseph mocks Hannah’s naivety and comfortable middle-class lifestyle but the bitter irony is that Hannah’s home life is anything but perfect: she is trapped in an abusive relationship with her husband (Eddie Marsan). The film is gritty and harrowing, yet the tentative relationship of care and understanding which develops between Hannah and Joseph casts a redemptive ray of light. Tyrannosaur is not an easy watch, but it is a film that you will be grateful for having seen.
Tyrannosaur is released in cinemas on 7 October
