Whats it about? Ali (Christina Aguilera) leaves her hometown in Iowa for the bright lights of Los Angeles to find fame and fortune as a singer. Instead, shes lured by the bright lights of the local burlesque club, fronted by Tess (the fabulous Cher).
Whos in it? Christina Aguilera, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell and Cher.
Whats good? It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Its entertaining, fun and really does showcase how amazing Christina Aguileras voice is. We cant imagine that Britney Spears has a set of lungs like that. Stanley Tucci is also one of my favourite actors, so Im a bit biased when it comes to films hes in, although I will say he does borrow too much from his character in The Devil Wears Prada for this one.
Whats bad? Kristen Bell has a part that is a non-part. She seems to be in Burlesque just because its a film starring Cher and Christina Aguilera. We also imagine Dita Von Teese would be affronted by the limited amount of actual burlesque there is in the film. Theres one naked-except-for-feathers scene and thats it! It is also vomit-inducing cheese on toast. Put it this way, if you took Dreamgirls and Coyote Ugly and forced them to make babies, Burlesque would be the product.
Should you go and see it? Im going to have to say no. Wait for it on DVD. But if the Golden Globe nominationsare anything to go by, my opinions aren't the same as everyone's.
Burlesque is released in cinemas on 17 December.
