The best Oscar speeches, ever

This is it. The biggest moment of your career. You've waited, with sweaty palms, to hear your name called or not called out. And, you've won! Not only do you have to let that sink in, you also have to get up on stage and thank everyone, everywhere who has helped you on your road to an Oscar and all within about 30 seconds. So, what do you say? Here's how some celebrities have done it, in our favourite Oscar speeches, ever.

Reese Witherspoon: Best Actress: Walk The Line, The Oscars 2006

Reese Witherspoon is so adorable. When she accepted her award for Best Actress for her role as June Carter-Cash in Walk The Line in 2006 she thanked her parents who she said were 'proud of me, whether I was making my bed or making a movie.' Watch Reese Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech here.

Anna Paquin: Best Supporting Actress: The Piano, The Oscars 1993

True Blood star Anna Paquin was just 11 years-old when she won an Oscar for her role in The Piano. Watch her as she tries to let the information sink in before she gives her acceptance speech, someone get the girl a paper bag quick!

Natalie Portman: Best Actress: Black Swan, The Oscars 2011

Up against some serious competition, a heavily-pregnant Natalie POrtman took home the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Prima Ballerina Nina in Black Swan. After thanking everyone that helped make the movie, she thanked Benjamin Millepied, the father of her child, for giving her 'the most important role of my life'.

Cuba Gooding Jr: Best Supporting Actor: Jerry Maguire, The Oscars 1996

Cuba Gooding Jr's Oscar speech when he won Best Supporting Actor at The Oscars in went down in Academy Award history. Just watch the video of him jupmping around on the stage like a mad man. Classic.

Robin Williams: Best Supporting Actor: Good Will Hunting, The Oscars 1998

When Robin Williams went on stage to thank the Academy for his Best Supporting Actor award for Good Will Hunting it was clear it was going to be emotionally tumultuous.

Jack Palance: Best Supporting Actor: City Slickers, The Oscars1991

When Jack Palance accepted his award for Best Supporting Actor for City Slickers, he joked about producers wanting younger actors to play older roles. To prove how young at heart he really is he started doing one-armed press-ups on the stage. At 73 .

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck: Best Writing: Good Will Hunting, The Oscars 1997

When Ben Affleck and Matt Damon won their first Academy Award for writing Good Will Hunting in Ben admitted that winning was really, really scary. "There's no way we are doing this in less than 20 second," Ben said. They paid tribute to their beautiful mothers, and then things went downhill as Matt Damon repeated every name Ben said. "Whoever we forgot, we love you,' the boys finally opt for.

Julia Roberts: Best Actress: Erin Brokovich, 2001

Julia Roberts took home the Best Actress for her role in Erin Brokovich in 2001. "Sir," she said to the conductor of the orchestra,"You're doing a great job, but you are so quick with that stick. So why don't you sit, becauseI may never be here again." Julia then went on to thank "everyone I've ever met in my life".

Angelina Jolie: Best Supporting Actress: Girl Interrupted, The Oscars 2000

Angelina Jolie left everybody guessing when she announced 'i'm so in love with my brother right now.' having spent the time she was on the red carpet with him appearing to shower him with kisses.

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova: Best Original Song: Falling Slowly, Once The Oscars 2008

When Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won the Oscar for Best Original Song from the film Once in , Glen took to the microphone first to say his thank yous. Unfortunately, the band thought that they were done and so played their outro music as Marketa stepped up to the microphone to speak. Luckily, she was called back onto the stage to have her moment.
