What's the story?
Wicked is the 'untold story of the witches of Oz' and turns the table on the film that we all know and love. The story follows the life of Elphaba - the supposed wicked witch of the West, but as the story unfolds you can't help rooting for her. There was a lot of hype surrounding the West End debut of this after it stormed Broadway and scooped up Tony and Drama Desk awards galore - the show is entirely deserving of all the hype.
Who should I take?
Your bestfriend. Friendship is a massive theme and you and your pals will love the soppy songs as well as the upbeat girlie power melodies. But it's great for the whole family too -
kids will be enchanted. And even your bloke will probably like it -
there's a fair bit of humour packed in.
Best bit?
The closing number of Act One, 'Defying Gravity', is a rousing affair, and leaves the audience on the edge of their seats, just waiting to see if Act Two can beat the emotion and humour of the first. And Act Two did indeed have more of an emotional punch. Without giving too much away, the two best friends Glinda and Elphaba have the most beautiful duet, which my best friend and I could barely hear over our sobbing.
Is it worth my hard-earned cash?
Without question. Wicked has won 15 major awards including a Grammy, three Tony awards and a Drama Desk award. Go and see the spectacle yourself; the story, songs and cast are all fab.
