Call Me, written by Giorgio Moroder and Debbie Harry, hit the No 1 spot in April 1980. In the UK it only stayed at No 1 for one week, but in the US, Call Me remains Blondie\'s biggest-selling single to date. It was the main theme song for the film American Gigolo, which starred Richard Gere.

Like A Prayer remains one of Madonna\'s most controversial music videos to date, having ticked off the religious world more than a little because it seemed to depicted the queen of pop making out with a saint.

He may not be the most popular man these days, but there\'s no doubting Michael Jackson\'s talent for producing perfect pop songs. Billie Jean hit No 1 in February 1983 but only managed to hold on for one week. It was toppled by Bonnie Tyler\'s Total Eclipse Of The Heart but, much as we love that song, we firmly believe this was the best No 1 single of the \'80s. Shamone.
