What's the story?
If you are silly enough not to have seen the film that inspired this lunatic musical then you are obviously an empty headed animal food trough whopper and we fart in your general direction!
Inspired by, and lovingly ripped off from 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', 'Spamalot' tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, although in this tale, the King and his emissaries are all completely bonkers, as is every other person they come into contact with in their quest for the Holy Grail…
Who's in it?
When handbag went to 'Spamalot' we were lucky enough to see the rather wonderful Tim Curry reprise his Broadway role as King Arthur. He has now been replaced by Simon Russell Beale who recently won a Best Actor award for his role in 'The Philanthropist'. Also in the cast, and most definitely worthy of a mention, is the beautiful and highly entertaining Hannah Waddingham, who plays the Lady of the Lake – her singing was simply immense.
Who would like this?
Everybody. Whether you are a fan of Python or not, there is no way you could resist this musical's charms… Of course it helps if you are completely bonkers, and willing to let go and join in with the silly stuff.
Best bit
You'll love the way they've adapted your favourite scenes from the film to the stage, and as for the musical numbers, naturally they are pure comical genius.
Is it worth my hard earned cash?
We cannot emphasise enough how good this show was. This is the kind of musical you will leave feeling as though you've really had your money's worth. You'll laugh, you'll cry (mainly through laughing too hard) and you'll immediately want to see it again…
