What's the story?
The Covent Garden branch of the posh-ish brasserie chain has recently undergone a makeover to include a spiffy new seasonal menu, extension and champagne bar.
Perfect for...
We noticed lots of groups, but the relaxing yet lively atmosphere would make it perfect for nervous first-daters, especially those who are catching a nearby show, thanks to the bargain-tastic and delicious looking pre- and post-theatre menus.

The history behind the building (it was formerly the Westminster County Courts, and courtrooms can be rented for functions) means that even though this is a chain, it has escaped the soulless identikit nature that befalls so many other chain restaurants. The sheer hugeness of the place, coupled with cream walls and dark wood gives it all a very grand feel.
Will it make me fatter?
Like the rest of Browns, the bigger is better' mentality also applies to portions. A shared seafood platter for a starter was fresh, delicious and more than enough for two. Mains of grilled chicken with prosciutto and taleggio cheese and a surf 'n' turf plate both featured flavourful, well-cooked meats and chips that were perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.
Not liking...
Service, although friendly and knowledgeable, was slow once the dining room was full to capacity. As much as our mouths were watering for the chocolate brownie, our patience gave out (if it hadn't, quite possibly our waistbands would have) and we left pud-less.
Best bit
This place is a hidden gem when it comes to cocktails and it does a mean Mai Tai, which comes in at a snip at £4.95 - perfect to sip while perching at the expansively glamorous wooden bar.
