Lunch box and matching thermos flask : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
For those of you who had to suffer the indignity of having your packed lunch put in an old ice cream container by your un-cool mum, while the rest of the kids were proudly touting their My Little Pony/Care Bear/Rainbow Bright lunch box and flask combo - we feel your pain. We know the torment of having to produce unsatisfactory lunchtime kit in the canteen. At school - there was no greater status symbol than the coolness of your lunch box.

Panini sticker swaps : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
Another major player in the playground cool stakes were Panini stickers. The thicker your wedge of swaps, the more popular you were. If you had a glitter sticker - you were worshipped like a demigod. If you had a completed Panini album - you were pretty much on par with He-man or She-ra. And could there have been a finer feeling than the moment of pure ecstasy and anticipation you enjoyed just as you ripped open a new packet? We don\'t think so.

Raleigh BMX : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
Blame the BMX flight scene in ET, blame BMX Beat, blame free spokie dokies in your cereal box - whatever - a child in the \'80s was simply not complete with out their Raleigh BMX. Preferably a Super Burner because it had gears - which was way cooler than having no gears. No gears on your bike? Geek.

ZX Spectrum : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
The ZX Spectrum was one of the first, and in our humble opinion the best, home computers to arrive in the UK. Closely followed by the American\'s Commodore 64 (rubbish) the ZX Spectrum quickly established a massive following and remains a cult favourite to this day. Discontinued in the early \'90s, the ZX had all the kookiest games (Chuckie Egg, Dizzy, Jet Set Willy et al) and was one of the first home computers to get its own magazine which had those delightfully annoying codes for you to painstakingly tap into your computer for hours in the hope that at the end of it you\'d have a new game to play. Did they ever work? Not so much.

Casio Keyboard : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
"What did you get for Christmas?"
"A Casio keyboard..."
"Can I come and play at your house?"
The older you got, the more amazing your collection of \'stuff\' had to be. In 1986 the top of the cool list was dominated by the latest hi-tech keyboards. They were so good, you didn\'t even have to know how to play them because they could practically play themselves. You wanna samba? Press the samba button. You wanna add some drums? Press the drum pads. You wanna add a sample of a fake ‘Dad snoring\' press the ‘Dad snoring\' button. Hours of fun.

Swatch watches : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
Swatch was the watch brand of the \'80s. Your typical Swatch was brightly coloured with a razzy pattern and had the uncanny ability to be worn in a number of fantastical ways. Wearing your Swatch watch buckle facing up was a major statement of cool, or if you had more than one Swatch watch you could wear them all at the same time on one wrist. If you were really hip you had a Pop Swatch which you could attach to your clothes.

Filofax : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
What ever happened to that indispensable personal organiser, the Filofax. Oh yeah - the Blackberry. Well, they were great at the time - lots of interesting clear pockets to store your multitude of credit cards in (or if you were 10, your Lego Club card, and that fake Diners Card that everyone got in their new purse). What else? A lovely diary planner that you simply had to fill in using an italic felt tip pen, a map, address book, of course, and a little plastic ruler. Ace.

Shoulder pads : Top 10 items of \'80s cool
Made de rigueur by the likes of Dynasty and Dallas, shoulder pads were an absolute must for fashionable ladies of the \'80s. Most outfits you bought during the \'80s came with velcro attached to the shoulders so you could add what ever size shoulder pad you required - the bigger the better. Let us now pray together that they never come back.
