Lost in a nutshell

men, celebrity,TV Lost Josh Holloway Anyone that’s seen Lost knows we can’t give you a full catch up here (we’d be here for about a week!) But, here are the parts we think you need to know.

Season 1:
In 2004, Oceanic flight 815 leaves Sydney for Los Angeles but crash-lands on an undiscovered tropical island in the South Pacific. Soon after the impact, alone and in need of rescue, a dynamic group of survivors form. As luck would have it luck the leaders of this group - namely surgeon Jack (Matthew Fox) tomboy Kate (Evangeline Lily) and bad boy Sawyer (Josh Holloway) – are gorgeous. However, mysteries soon start to unfold on the island as wheelchair-bound Locke (Terry O’Quinn) finds his paralysis cured, a roaming polar bear causes havoc, and a monster made of smoke picks off survivors. Worse still, they learn they’re not the only humans on the island, as a spooky group named The Others scupper their attempts to escape.

Season 2: The survivors find a hidden laboratory buried underground, manned only by Desmond (Harry Ian Cusik), a wild and haphazard Scot. We learn there are more labs on the Island, set up as research post decades previously by the secret Dharma Initiative. The Scot says his job is to enter the numbers four, eight, 15, 16, 23 and 42 into the computer every 108 minutes or it will spark an apocalypse. Thinking this is utter rubbish, Locke stops him entering numbers and the world survives. But there is a huge explosion.

Season 3: Jack, Sawyer and Kate are captured by The Others – led by the devious Ben (Michael Emerson). Sawyer and Kate are imprisoned in a cage together while Jack is isolated from them, interrogated by Juliet and forced to operate on Ben. Rather than waste their time in jail, Kate and Sawyer have sex. They don’t realise that Jack can see them on a CCTV monitor. Meanwhile, a freightliner turns up. Will the freightliner’s crew rescue the survivors? Take a wild guess.

Season 4: Big shock, it turns out the freighter’s crew are even nastier than The Others. A small group of original survivors, known as the Oceanic Six and led by Jack, blow up the freighter, fly off in it’s helicopter and return to civilisation in the US (not telling anyone about the mysterious island). However, they soon find themselves turning to alcoholism, drugs and other vices in a bid to cope. Ben, who now might be a goodie, hunts them down and tells them they must come back to the island to save those they left behind, and the island itself. We also learn the island is presided over by an invisible spirit known as Jacob.

Season 5:
With the Oceanic Six now gone, the remaining survivors are still stuck on the island. But it’s polar bears, furious natives and smoke monsters were apparently not weird enough as it now become a moveable landmass, able to jump through space and time (we’re not making this up). The final jump sees the survivors land in 1974, where they join the Dharma Initiative. In 1977, the Oceanic Six to help them escape. They believe that by changing the past, they can change the future, and undo the whole thing. Their plan to change the past is to detonate an atomic bomb into the island’s core. The moment they do so, season five ends.

With so many questions to answer, the shows makers are keeping a tight lid on the upcoming season. However, TV insiders claims the sixth season will be true to the show’s pilot and first season, packed full of intrigue, suspense and creepy monsters. There are rumours of a previously unseen band of Others taking survivors hostage, main cast members being killed off and Kate finally choosing between Jack and Sawyer. Whatever happens - and as long as Josh Holloway keeps wandering around with his top off - we’ll be watching.

Lost season six begins tonight at 9pm on Sky1.
