What's the story?
The myvu personal media viewer is one of the more surreal iPod accessories. It's a pair of super hi-tech goggles that projects a video image in front of you wherever you look, so that you feel totally immersed in your viewing experience.
What's good then?
Well, if you have a video iPod and have got tired of craning your neck over the teeny screen for extended periods, then this is probably your answer. As it's strapped to your eyes, you can move your head around and get comfortable, and you can slip the iPod back in your pocket, leaving your hands free to get on with whatever you like (albeit with limited peripheral vision). A godsend on long journeys or boring waits and with reasonably good sound quality and ear buds that lock in sound, you won't be pestered by the world around you, which is good if you choose to wear them in public.
Any bad points?
Apart from looking like La Forge from Star Trek (you know, the blind one with a hairband over his eyes), and the ridicule you will get from your fellow commuters if you choose to wear this on the way to work, the image at the end of the day actually feels a little small. Despite the fact that it practically fills your vision, you still get the feeling that you're watching a really small television up close - but then, I guess, that's exactly what it is.
Verdict
At €199.95, this isn't the cheapest iPod must-have, but you're guaranteed to be the only one of the girls who owns one, whether that's a good thing or not. myvu does the job, but how many people really will sacrifice viewing pleasure for sheer geekiness?
