Charlie Wilson\'s War (DVD)

With Hollywood hard-hitters like Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman starring, Charlie Wilson’s War is a difficult film not to like. Crystal Castles -- Crystal Castles (CD)
Out now
Nutty thrash-electro duo Crystal Castles have been bubbling on the underground scene in the UK for a while now, but now look set to be one of 2008’s most interesting breakthrough acts. Their self-titled debut is scrappy little mixed bag full of disorientatingly good electro, punk, and leftfield numbers that beg to be played on repeat. Nice.

Rules For Saying Goodbye -- Katherine Taylor (Paperback)
In stores 15 May 2008
Although the cover and title suggest that this book is yet another slice of boring chick lit, it turns out that Rules For Saying Goodbye is anything but. Sparkling, witty and beautifully observed, Katherine Taylor’s debut novel is the kind of book you’ll want to devour in one sitting, but regret doing so when it’s over all too soon. Expect weird neighbours, strange friends, bizarre families, lots of cocktails, lots of break-ups and a heroine we can all identify with.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
In cinemas 22 May 2008
Who isn’t excited by the arrival of the first Indiana Jones in nearly 20 years? So what’s new with Indiana? Well, in this new instalment he’s definitely not going up against the Nazis – no this time – it’s the Russians. Set in 1957 – the height of the Cold War, Indy and his sidekick Mac (Ray Winstone) have barely escaped a close scrape with nefarious Soviet agents on a remote airfield. During his adventure Indy meets rebellious young Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who tempts him into joining him on a crusade find the Crystal Skull of Akator, a legendary object of fascination, superstition and fear. Lust, Caution (DVD)
Out Now
Moving away from gay cowboys and angry green men, director Ang Lee turns his attentions to Japanese occupied China during World War II. In the film, we follow the story of a shy young student who becomes involved with a resistance group and their plot to kill a Japanese collaborator. Things begin to go array after our resistance spy and her target fall dangerously in love. Lust, Caution is a visually stylish, pretty pornographic, and hugely exhausting watch. Utterly absorbing, yet a trifle annoying, you’ll love it and hate it in equal measure.

PS I Love You (DVD)
Out 12 May 2008
Based on the best-selling Cecelia Ahern novel, PS I Love You is a thoroughly enjoyable chick flick, ideal for a girly night in with your mates, or a quiet moment alone surrounded by half eaten chocolate bars and several packets of Kleenex. Apart from the sickly sweet romantic tragedy on offer, there’s also plenty of eye candy in the form of Gerard Butler, James Marsters and mostly hunky of all, Jeffrey Dean Morgan – whose rugged good looks are worth the price of the DVD alone.

The Ting Tings -- We Started Nothing (CD)
Out 19 May 2008
They’ve been tipped for the top by just about everyone and have a fantastically kooky name. They make bubblgum pop spliced with a hint of indie attitude and they look hot as hell. Their debut album, We Started Nothing, is full of simplistic, bouncy, catchy, happy tunes that are destined to become the soundtrack to the summer of 2008. The Ting Tings – we salute you.

Having become completely obsessed with Santogold since her single LES Artistes dropped into the office last month, we are blissfully happy to report that the rest of her debut is equally impressive. Booka Shade - The Sun & The Neon Light (CD)
Out 26 May 2008
Following their critically acclaimed Movements album, German electronic outfit Booka Shade are back with their third long player, The Sun & The Neon Light. A tribute to the night and all its glamour, The Sun & The Neon Light is a breathtaking collection of enthralling ambient tracks, plinky plonky (sometimes quite ’80s) minimalist beats with soaring orchestral backing and a cluster of lusty, driving dance floor numbers which beg to be moved to. We absolutely love, love, love this album, so miss it at your peril.
