Following her riotous comeback gig at The Royal Festival Hall in London earlier this year, we have been awaiting Grace Jones’ first album in nearly 20 years with bated breath. Although Hurricane may not quite reach the same level of excellence that her seminal album Slave To The Rhythm achieved at the height of the ‘80s, it does hold a great deal of charm. Stand out tracks include the very personal I’m Crying (Mothers Tears) and Williams’ Blood and the delicious This Is and Sunset Sunrise.

Britney’s back from the brink album Circus may not be much more than a public service announcement that the princess of pop has shaped up and is not ready to ship out of the public eye just yet, but there are a few fun moments to be had in-between the over produced drudge of ‘heard it all before’ tracks. Current single Womanizer comes out on top but Timberland-esque bass thumper Kill The Lights is sure to be a winner on the dance floor, while Blur and the slightly disturbingly worded Mmm Papi hark back to better Britney days.

In the latest addition to this long running franchise, our Prince seems to have had something of a make-over. Sadly, he’s no where near as handsome as his predecessor, but let’s not allow that to distract us from what is essentially a highly enjoyable romp. The story this time around is that our hero, having fled to a deserted kingdom offering sanctuary, must fight the spread of evil and corruption in his new found home. On the whole, Prince Of Persia is beautiful and entertaining game, but sadly a little too easy to complete. ( Available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC).

Baz Luhrmann has triumphed once again with his latest release Australia. The romantic tale is beautifully told in good old fashioned movie style (think Gone with the Wind) and follows the story of an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits a failing cattle ranch in Australia. Kidman decides to employ diamond in the rough Oz ‘Drover’ (Jackman) to salvage the dire situation – cue journey across the arid outback, romantic looks, kissing close ups. Its not all love and gush though, as contextually the film is set amongst harrowing scenes of war and human brutality giving the fluff some substance. Worth the price of the ticket alone for the wonderful Hugh Jackman shower scene.

You might have heard a new Batman film was released in the summer, it was pretty big news. Picking up the story after 2005’s Batman Begins we find Christian Bale playing Bruce Wayne who as Batman is still reluctantly fighting crime in Gotham but things have changed. Where they were once strong the criminal fraternity are now fragmented and in disarray, living in fear of the caped crusader and being smashed apart by a fearless and righteous new District Attorney, Harvey Dent. The entrance of a new criminal mastermind, the unhinged Joker, however brings chaos back to the city. There are many, many reasons to love The Dark Knight - from Christian Bale’s intense Batman and Heath Ledger’s spellbinding Joker (surely a shoe-in for an Oscar), to the incredible action sequences and director Christopher Nolan’s dark and intelligent take on the superhero genre. More than any single reason you can name its success is down to simply being a brilliant film that you’ll want to watch again and again. Buy this DVD, you won’t regret it.
