What once was one massive rock fest soon became two. With Leeds feeling left out that the south was getting all the fun, they saddled up with the Reading festival to create one of the biggest rock and indie events in the country. Two locations, tons of booze and more rock than you get in Bognor!

download festival
One of the newest kids on the block but you won\'t find any pop here. Re-igniting the metal flames at the Donnington racetrack, Download promises more heavy metal than the Robot Wars graveyard. Acts this year include boundary-crossing Linkin Park, your mum\'s favourite satanist Marilyn Manson and metal legends Iron Maiden.

Womad festival
If the idea of travelling out of the UK is too much for you, but you still fancy an international flair to your festivals, WOMAD is like all the world\'s music, squeezed onto a field in Reading. Featuring folk and indigenous music from all the continents (probably also including Antarctica if you\'re thinking), this merry collision of culture will certainly be a colourful way to spend a weekend

T in the Park festival
Och aye the noo! For those in bonnie Scotland, you won\'t have to travel far for your fill of festivals. T in the Park is traditionally Scotland\'s biggest rock and pop festival, with 80,000 people expected, the headliners this year being Artic Monkeys, The Killers and the Beach Boy\'s own Brian Wilson. Good vibrations all round!

Glastonbury festival
Nothing need be said for this one. If you don\'t already know about it then it\'s time to take your head out the sand, grab a tent and some wellies (you never know), and get yourself down to sunny Somerset for the UK\'s biggest festival of the year. This festival has it all: music, dance, comedy, cinema, arts, and no doubt a few aliens on stilts

Edinburgh Fringe Festival
If your ears start bleeding due to standing too close to a music-festival PA then get yourself to the Edinburgh festival for some humourous therapy. If you don\'t come out of Edinburgh this summer without rolling on the floor with laughter then you must not have a funny bone in your body. The fringe festival is definitely the biggest performing arts festival in the UK, specialising in making you wet yourself laughing

Cheltenham Jazz Festival
If you don\'t fancy jumping about in a mosh pit or camping out in a tent, then maybe this would be the best one for you. This week-long festival turns the whole of Cheltenham into one great jazz gig, with the newest sounds in modern, classical and any other form of jazz you can think of. They\'ll hate me for saying this but... nice

Proms in the Park festival
If you\'d rather Mozart to Madonna or the thought of a band with less than 30 members is like watching a toddler\'s school performance, then perhaps Proms in the Park is more like your kind of day out. Happening simultaneously in five different cities and screened in the city centre of eight more, there is no excuse not to see this classic festival! (See what I did there?)

Guilfest festival
And finally if you are looking for something which caters for a family, there is no better choice than this one. With Radio 2 favourites Supergrass, Morcheeba and Madness filling the Surrey countryside for three days, and with the focus being one where everyone gets involved, kids under 12 get in for free and you can fob them off into a massive play area, there is no excuse for you not to go and boogie on with Baggy Trousers.
