Love Lies by Adele Parks
The chick-lit author extraordinaire, Adele Parks brings us yet another sassy bestseller you won’t be able to put down. A modern day Cinderella story, Love Lies centres around Fern’s longing for the perfect fairy tale lifestyle. At 29, she is desperate to get married but the spark has long since gone from her relationship with her boyfriend, Adam, and he doesn’t look set to propose anytime soon anyway. Then, out of the blue comes a chance meeting with the UK’s hottest pop star and it’s love at first sight. Thankfully, the feeling’s mutual and, after a brief whirlwind romance he pops the question in front of a packed audience at Wembley and the next thing she knows Fern is living the celebrity dream in glamorous LA. Having her days filled with shoe fittings, lunches and wedding preparations isn’t exactly everything she hoped it would be though and Fern suddenly finds herself yearning for her old flat in Clapham. Like Fern, you’ll be whisked away on the Hollywood dream until the real deceitful and backstabbing world of the media is uncovered, we can guarantee you’ll be glued to this book from the start.

One Day by David Nicholls
The author of Starter For Ten has now written the ultimate zeitgeist love story for anyone who ever wanted someone they couldn\'t have. Emma and Dexter graduate 15 July 1988 and we follow their on/off relationship by revisiting them on that date for 20 years, summer after summer after glorious summer! Emma is feisty and funny but struggling to find her direction in life. Dexter is confident, bordering on arrogant and misguided (but hey, we girls love a fixer-upper). Despite their faults, we root for this hapless pair; grieving for every opportunity they miss and celebrating every last kiss.

The House At Riverton by Kate Morton
Don’t judge this book by its cover, this is actually a glittering (although tragic) romance not a gardening book for your gran! A rich, multi layered family saga, with excellent, believable characters and plenty of juicy sub plots. Set largely in 1924, you are soon lost to another world; a world of charm and dignity and gorgeous dresses!

Rumour Has It
This novel is a pick-me-up for the freshly dumped (and everyone has at some time or another been freshly dumped – sad but true!). Hurt Tilly Cole swaps her London life for a small town existence but it turns out to be more interesting than she could have hoped, as Roxborough is a breeding ground of gossip, intrigue and rampant rivalry for the hottest men - and there are hot men a plenty! This is a lively, optimistic look at second chances. Huge fun!

Wedding Season by Katie Fforde
Sarah Stratford is a wedding planner extraordinaire but she’s hiding a rather inconvenient truth - she doesn\'t believe in love, at least not for herself. Katie Fforde makes sure we love Sarah and, boy, do we want her to be proved wrong! Funny, fresh and heart warming; it’s impossible not to be cheering for a fairy tale ending. A perfect summer read – pop it in your suitcase with the sun oil!

Getting Rid of Matthew Jane Fallon
You’ve probably already read it by now, as this was a huge hit the summer of 2007, but if you missed out dash out and get a copy now. If you like your chick lit sassy, real and challenging then this is the book for you. Nice girls (like me) are squeamish that, initially, the protagonist Helen appears to be a bitch, but Fallon’s ability to look at a situation from every angle ensures sympathy even for the misguided mistress.

The Bad Mother\'s Handbook Kate Long
I love Kate Long’s work which is wise, warm and witty. She dares to write about protagonists that are far from glam but, perhaps, closer to home. This is the story of three generation of women living in a cramped council house dealing with some of life’s most tragic moments with nothing other than true northern grit and humour. Perceptive, charming, honest and hilarious. I love this book.

Hens Dancing
Venetia Summers appears to lead a fairy tale rural existence with her husband and two sons in her tumbledown Norfolk cottage. But when her husband leaves her for his masseuse, not even the arrival of a splendid baby daughter can make up for the sense of loss she feels. Hens Dancing follows Venetia’s diaries over the course of a year. It’s a heartening and sharply amusing portrayal of family life in the Norfolk countryside. It celebrates a year of rich friendships and exuberant children, along with an eccentric mother and an infuriating ex. It’s an enchanting, wholesome novel which will make you want to grab your flowered wellies and fishing nets and head to the coast with a band of cherubic kids.

Emma by Jane Austen
The perfect book to read if you’re the sort of romantic whose ideal summer is packed with traditional pleasures like picnics in the park and strawberry picking. I’ve re-read this novel dozens of times and it never fails to amuse me. Quick-witted, beautiful, headstrong and rich, Emma Woodhouse is exceedingly keen on matchmaking. Yet she’s oblivious to the question of who she herself might marry. Through this comedy of romantic education, she discovers a capacity for love and marriage. Awwww. It’s a fantastic classic.

The Time Traveller\'s Wife Audrey Niffenegger
I don’t know where to start with trying to describe this plot! Basically Henry lives his life none sequentially, as he time travels due to a genetic disorder. Sounds ludicrous but when you read it, you buy into it. He meets and falls deeply in love with Claire but as he continually (and inadvertently) leaps through time it’s unimaginably difficult for them to live like other couples. This is the ultimate in poor timing relationships and the characters are exquisitely drawn so you will care that this love is doomed. Trust me you will cry like a baby.
