Starring: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Justin Long and Ray Liotta.
Whats the fuss about? A coming of age comedy that puts a fresh and outrageous stamp on the tale of adolescent obsession and rebellion. The whole thing is so tongue-in-cheek that its surprising anyone could say their lines.
Whats the story? Based on the acclaimed novel by CD Payne, Youth In Revolt tells the story of Nick Twisp, a strange and yet interesting teenager with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini, who falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited girl-next-door, Sheeni Saunder,s while on a family vacation. But family geography, standards and adorable sweater-wearing ex-boyfriends conspire to keep the two apart. With Sheenis encouragement, Nick abandons his dull, predictable life and develops a rebellious (and strangely sexy) alter ego: Francois Dillinger. Francois will stop at nothing to get the girl, and leads Nick on a path of destruction with unpredictable consequences.
Best bit: The lines that Francois Dillinger tries to seduce Sheeni with. I mean where else would you find the quote, I want to tickle your belly button from the inside.
Worst bit: Although the concepts great and very funny, the whole thing never feels like it really comes together. Cera does a great job of proving that he can pull another character out of the bag with Francois, but his Nick is a reincarnation of Michael Cera in every other film.
See it with? Definitely not one to see with your mum, but any non-prudish friends will love it.
