What's the story?
We're transported 700 years into the future where mankind has left the Planet Earth after it became too polluted to live on. What remains of the human race (a bunch of fatties sitting around in a luxury space cruise liner) are floating around the galaxy, waiting for Earth to reboot and become safe again. Meanwhile back home, a lone robot called WALL.E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) is slowly cleaning the place up, one square inch at a time with only a cockroach for company.
Who's in it?
There isn't much in the way of talking in WALL.E - heck, the main characters can only say their own names - but never has a character with so small a vocabulary said so much! Academy Award winning sound effects supremeo Ben Burtt is the voice of WALL.E. Ben is best known for his work on the first Star Wars trilogy having come up with the voice of R2D2, the sound of a swishing light sabre and Darth Vader's distinctive heavy breathing. WALL.E's love interest EVE is voiced by Elissa Knight who also ‘appeared' in Cars. Apart from that, the only name you are likely to recognise is Sigourney Weaver, who voices the Ship's loopy computer admirably.
Liking?
Everything about WALL.E is utterly adorable. The graphics will have you swooning with delight, the characters and their various foibles will make you laugh and cry, the sticky and sweet story will have you completely hooked from the opening scene and for once, we guarantee you will walk out of the cinema thinking, "There was nothing I did not like about this film."
Verdict
If you only go to see one film this year, make sure this is it. WALL.E is an incredible movie that eclipses all of Pixar's previous efforts (yes, even Toy Story). Dazzling, fun, intricate, endearing, moving and completely perfect in every way - make sure you see it... straight away!
