What's the story?
Diner waitress Jenna has all but given up on life but there is one escape: pie making. Creating the sweet treats is the ideal escape from her monster husband but when she regretfully gets pregnant she finds another outlet: her dishy doctor. Meanwhile, she's dreaming of running away from her torture by winning a ,000 baking competition.
Best bit
The mid-West fairytale quality, homespun wisdom, warm characters, and appealing performances, particularly from charming leads Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion. Just as appealing are the support actors, including actress turned director Adrienne Shelly who was tragically murdered in her New York office prior to the film's release.
Worst bit
It tries a little too hard to be quirky and adorable and, despite being touching, isn't quite as meaningful as you'd like it to be.
Perfect for...?
A girly outing to the cinema followed by tea, pie and an uplifting chinwag.
What handbag should I take?
A handcrafted satchel that makes you feel just right.
