Jareth: "I have reordered time. I have turned the world upside down, and I have done it all for you! I am exhausted from living up to your expectations of me. Isn\'t that generous?"
If David Bowie wasn\'t considered a god before he did Labyrinth - he certainly was after. As the Goblin King Jareth, Bowie ignited the hearts and loins of many a young girl in the ‘80s. "What the hell is up with that Sarah?" we cried. We\'d have given up our little brothers as soon as he stepped into our boudoir and asked us to be his queen. Reowrrr!

Miyagi: "Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later get squish just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do "yes" or karate do "no." You karate do "guess so," - squish - just like grape. Understand?"
One of the great unexpected hits of the ‘80s, The Karate Kid spawned a generation of martial arts wannabes. Who didn\'t sign up for karate lessons after watching Daniel Larusso kick those bullies asses to the kerb? And there wasn\'t a kid in the playground who didn\'t know at least one Miyagism. Wax on. Wax off. Breath iiiin. Breath ouuuut.

The Goonies : Top 10 \'80s films
Chunk: "You guys, I\'m hungry. I know when my stomach growls there\'s trouble."
Treasure. When you were a kid, hunting for lost or buried treasure was a huge part of your life. Who didn\'t hunt for old maps with an X to mark the spot, or dig holes in the garden, just in case? So when we saw The Goonies for the first time it was almost as good as finding treasure ourselves. Released in 1985, The Goonies became a controversial hit - hated by the adults, adored by the kids and teenagers. Apart from having a great story and fantastic script, there was also someone for everyone to fancy. If you didn\'t have a crush on at least one of the Goonies you were a total reject.

Ferris Bueller\'s Day Off : Top 10 \'80s films
Ferris: "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don\'t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
One of the best high school movies ever, Ferris Bueller\'s Day Off introduced us to the ultimate teen hero: Impossibly cool, totally cute and adored by everyone except of course his nemesis, the great Mr Rooney. Released in 1986, Ferris taught us that skiving school was not just about staying in bed and watching TV - it was an art form. He taught us to try new things. He taught us how to be wily. He taught us how to be self-loving, arrogant ‘80s egomaniacs. We love you, Ferris.

Gremlins : Top 10 \'80s films
Grandfather: "With Mogwai comes much responsibility. I cannot sell him at any price."
Comedy and horror are notoriously difficult genres to blend together - seldom has this type of film borne anything worthy of your precious time. But if there ever was a benchmark for funny frightener, it\'s got to be Gremlins. Unleashed in 1984, Gremlins brought us the most adorable of made-up creatures, the Mogwai, and the most heinous, the Gremlins. The main furball, Gizmo, remains a cinematic icon to this day, while his ugly cousins can currently be seen harassing Peter Jones in the new BT advert. Tut.

Back To The Future : Top 10 \'80s films
George McFly: "Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn\'t take Lorraine out that he\'d melt my brain."
Released in 1985, Back To The Future was brilliant for several reasons. The story was like nothing we\'d ever seen before, the special effects were dazzling, everyone wished they knew a nutty professor like Doc Brown and Michael J Fox was gorgeous, funny and completely believable as Marty McFly. Science fiction had never been so cool.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark : Top 10 \'80s films
Indiana Jones: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
It was the film that launched one of the most successful film franchises of all time and is arguably the best of the quadrilogy. Raiders Of The Lost Ark, released in 1981, introduced the world to Indiana Jones - the most enchanting hero (sans super powers) to ever be seen on the silver screen.

ET: The Extra-Terrestrial : Top 10 \'80s films
Elliot: "How do you explain school to a higher intelligence?"
When you think of the ‘80s, it\'s very difficult not to think about ET. Released in 1982, ET became one of the biggest films of the decade and is still thought of today as one of Steve Spielberg\'s best. After watching ET there wasn\'t a kid in the world that didn\'t try to make an alien satellite dish using their Speak & Spell and an umbrella. That Christmas we all insisted our parents buy us a BMX, just in case we figured out how to make it fly. And if someone on our street was lucky enough to own a glowing heart ET doll, they were pretty much set for life as the king of cool.

Gordie: "Alright, alright, Mickey\'s a mouse, Donald\'s a duck, Pluto\'s a dog, what\'s Goofy?"
Adapted from the Steven King short story, The Body, Stand By Me is one of the most magical coming of age stories ever told. Released in 1986, Stand By Me made us laugh and cry and serves today as a powerful reminder of what it was like to be young and to have truly amazing friends.
