Since releasing her debut single, a cover of Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, Alexandra Burke’s debut album Overcome went straight to number one in the UK. Subsequently her next three singles Bad Boys, Broken Heels and All Night Long reached the top 10. After re-releasing Overcome as a deluxe edition, she added a new single `’start without you’ which hit number one. She is currently working on her second album, which is due for release in 2012. But will Alexandra ever take Leona Lewis’ crown?

After a stint in the West End in the award-winning play The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice in 2009, Dianna Vickers signed with RCA music group and had a number one single Once and a number one album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree. She also seemed to decide that she’d had enough of performing bare-footed and getting out ‘the claw’. Thank goodness.

Dianna recently hit headlines when she admitted that she’s dating the lead singer of One Night Only George Craig, whose ex’s include Emma Watson. Musically things look a little unstable for Dianna, she has departed from RCA but is supposedly still working on a second album.

Having caused controversy during her time on The X Factor as it surfaced that she was dating a producer, who later turned out to be in charge of audiences, Laura White spent some time deciding what she wanted to do. In 2009 she released her first single You Should Have Known and featured as a special guest on Peter Andre’s tour. Then in 2010 the singer lent her vocals to the Haiti single alongside the Stereophonics, Shane MacGowan and Johnny Depp, before disappearing into obscurity. Her album is still being recorded and is slated for release some time in 2011.

Since The X Factor Eoghan Quigg has found himself signed and dropped by RCA records, and found himself with and without a girlfriend (Diana Vickers).\r\n\r\nHis debut album entered the charts at number 14 before falling out of the top 100 in three short weeks. But Chris Quinn, Eoghan’s dad, came out to defend his son. “The album of cover songs was recorded in eight to ten days. How can you do an album properly in that length of time?” Chris asked the Belfast Telegrapg \r\n\r\n“The other acts were all given nine months to a year. They should have done the same for Eoghan, instead it was a quick kill.” \r\n

JLS got seriously sexy after their time on The X Factor. They headed to the studio, released their debut single Beat Again and cemented themselves in the hearts of girls everywhere with their music videos. There second album reached number two in the UK album charts and they did a bit for charity with the release of their single Love You More – which was their fourth number one. Their latest single She Makes Me Wanna went straight in at number one making it the boys fifth number one Their third album is out on the 14 November.

Winner, series one (2004)
After winning the first series of The X Factor, Steve Brookstein was signed to Sony BMG and released his first single, a cover of Against All Odds on 20 December 2004. The song reached No 1 on the UK singles chart, as did his debut album Heart And Soul when it was released in May 2005. Despite many TV appearances, a second single never materialised and in August 2005 Steve was dropped by BMG.

Not defeated, Steve went on to write his own material and form his own record label. His first single from the album Fighting Butterflies was released in 2006 but failed to crack the UK Top 75 charts, reaching No 193. Unfortunately, his album followed suit peaking at only 165.

In June 2007, Steve appeared as a cabaret act on the P&O Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry, alongside series two X Factor alumni Chico Slimani and Journey South.Steve was last seen touring clubs and pubs with his jazz singer wife, Eileen Hunter.

Winner, series three (2006)
After stunning the country with her amazing voice and winning The X Factor in 2006, Leona Lewis went on to superstardom both in the UK and across the pond. Leona’s first single Bleeding Love broke a world record when it was downloaded 50,000 times in 30 minutes and outsold the rest of the UK’s Top 40 singles combined. In February 2008 Bleeding Love became the first track by a UK female artist to reach number one in America since 1987. This year, Leona sang at the closing ceremony of the Olympics, representing the handover of the event from Beijing to London. The X Factor winner’s sophomore album Echo is due for release in November 2009 and it’s reported that there is a £15m world tour planned for 2010.

X Factor winner Leon Jackson stormed the charts with his version of When You Believe which went straight in at number one. However his follow-up single and debut album didn’t fare so well. Then, Sony BMG controversially dropped Leon through a newspaper. Ouch. \r\n\r\nSince that flop, Leon has learnt guitar and piano and found a new acoustic sound and was last seen touring festivals over the summer.

Tabby starred in fly on the wall ‘rockumentary’ What Tabby Did Next, which happily coincided with the release of his debut single Number One In Ireland. Sadly for Tabby, his single didn’t quite live up to its name and went into the charts at No 7. Since then, Tabby has toured the UK and appeared at numerous festivals.

Since losing out to Leona Lewis in the third series of The X Factor, Ray Quinn went on to record a swing album Doing It My Way, which was released in January 2007. The album went straight to number one in the UK, going gold in its first week of release. Later that year Ray was dropped by his record label Sony BMG, but continued to make public appearances. Ray played T-Bird Doody in the West End version of Greece before appearing in Alladin with Steps’ Faye Tozier in 2008.\r\n\r\nAfter his stint in Aladdin, Ray went onto star and win Dancing on Ice in 2009. Since then Ray has been a busy boy, he currently stars in the west end production of Dirty Dancing alongside his new fiancé Emma Stephens and in November he’ll appear as Danny in Grease.

Originally trained as a ballet dancer, Daniel was signed by Dreamworks in 2001 and worked on several tracks along with R Kelly but after the company was bought out, his single was shelved and he was forced to move back to London to work as a ballet teacher. Since The X Factor Daniel has been working in Will Smith’s LA studio, where he has been putting together a debut album and supplying backing vocals to Jamie Foxx.

Same Difference’s first album deal was with Syco for a reported cool £1million and the twins appeared on the X Factor in 2008 performing their debut single We R One.

Unfortunately the duo’s album failed to take the charts by storm and only reached number 22. In 2009 Same Difference announced a 21-date tour, which was then cancelled, and they performed a joint headline tour with X Factor contestant Leon Jackson instead. Shortly after though, they followed in Jackson’s path and were dropped by Syco.

They recently released a second album called The Rest Is History was received well by the critics, but unfortunately most of the UK just don’t get pop music and looks upon it like something they stepped on, and the rest, as they say, is history…

Chico Slimani would manage to knock Madonna off the No 1 spot with his debut single It’s Chico Time? After being voted off the series in the third to last episode, Chico had a number of successful single releases before his career took a turn for the worst. In June last year he performed in a cabaret act along with fellow X Factor participants Steve Brooksteinand Journey South on a P&O ferry. From September you will be able to catch Chico at Butlins Bognor Regis, performing in Chico’s Celebrity Chart Party - a 45-minute set that promises to give campers ‘The Chico Experience’.

Joe McElderry found himself involved in an anti-X Factor furore when he won the show in 2009. An online petition called for Rage Against The Machine to be number one instead of Joe’s X Factor winner’s single. After that Joe spent most of 2010 recording his debut album Wide Awake, which didn’t do as well as expected. Nevermind though, Joe was asked by Twentieth Century Fox to perform a track for the film Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, and There’s A Place For Us received a Golden Globe nomination.

Since then, Joe’s contract with Syco expired and the record label dropped him. But, in 2011 he was crowned winner of Popstar to Opera star and he’s promised fans that he’ll be back with his second album Classic at the end of August.

Marmite-like contestants from The X Factor series six, Jedward, both annoyed and entertained fans in equal measure. Since then, the pair have released their debut album Planet Jedward, dueted with Vanilla Ice, performed for President Obama and even nearly won Eurovision. It doesn’t look like the madness is ever going to end – they’re currently filming a new series for CBBC called Jedward’s Tour Of Britain.

Since then he’s been performing with The X Factor tour and is currently tucked up in the studio recording for his well-awaited debut album – which should be out around Christmas time.

Having come second to Matt Cardle in last year’s The X Factor, 25 year-old Rebecca Ferguson has been non-stop busy. She was signed by Epic Records (who represent JLS and Olly Murs) and is well under way on her debut album, which will be released in November. The Liverpool lass also had a short romance with One Direction’s Zayn Malik, 19. She can currently be spotted in the adverts for Walkers Sunbites.

One Direction X factor Where are they now?
After failing to get through the audition process as soloists, Zayn, Liam, Niall, Louis and Harry were put together as Simon’s new group project One Direction. Finishing in third place, the band promised to be back. This year has seen them advertising Pokémon for Nintendo DS and putting the finishing touches to their debut album. Their debut single What Makes You Beautiful is released soon and even McFly have been getting on board the One Direction love train.

“I wish we had their new single for ourselves – it’s fresh,” McFly drummer Harry Judd told The Daily Star.
