sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall The men of Sex and the City

It\'s not all about the ladies when it comes to Sex And The City, OK who are we kidding it\'s 99.9% about the ladies, but the men also make it what it is too. Who would Carrie be without the lessons she learnt from her relationship with Aidan, and where would Samantha be if she hadn\'t dated Smith? With the film out on Friday, it\'s high time we had a rundown of our all time favourite Sex And The City men.

Big

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Big The story: In true fairytale romance style Carrie first met Mr Big when he stopped on the street to help her pick up a condom strip that had fallen out of her purse, and the rest, as they say, was history.

Pros: You couldn\'t say Big was boring; although some might argue that\'s more of a con than a pro. And, he definitely couldn\'t be described as Mr nice guy. They say opposites attract and Carrie and Big are chalk and cheese. He\'s arrogant to her self-deprecating, old school to her fashion-led freshness, and calm to her quirky. Although he didn\'t always show it, Big did care. He made sure she got to the hospital when Miranda was giving birth, in a horse-drawn carriage none-the-less, and chased Carrie to Paris to tell declare his undying love for her.
Cons: With his massive phobia to anything commitment-related, Carrie had a huge task in trying to tame Big. He\'s far from the perfect man; he\'s arrogant, cocky, and has a hard time expressing his emotions. But whoever said the course of true love runs smooth?
Handbag.com\'s verdict: Big\'s the one we\'re not too sure about. In the first Sex And The City movie he left Carrie at the alter and she still forgave him. Who knows what trouble he\'s going to be causing in Sex And The City 2? Plenty, we\'re sure of it.

Aidan Shaw

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Aidan Shaw The story: Aidan was the gorgeous, manly hunk, who was good with his hands (take your minds out of the gutter ladies - he\'s a carpenter). Everyone kind of hoped he\'d be the love of Carrie\'s life, until she blew it by sleeping with Big. Yeah, we know, how dumb?
Pros: Aidan is the complete opposite of Big. He doesn\'t have a problem with committing to Carrie, he proposed to her while she freaked out in the TV series. Aidan was kind and attentive; acting calmly while Carrie often threw her dummy out of the pram. He even forgave Carrie for having an affair with Big.
Cons: Aidan is a bit like a comfy pair of slippers. Easy and reliable but there just wasn\'t ever a spark there the way there was with Big. The two also fought like cat and dog, especially when they moved in together - bringing out the most annoying side to Carrie we think we\'ve ever seen.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: If Carrie doesn\'t want Aidan, we\'ll take him! We\'re just glad he is making an appearance in Sex And The City 2 movie, we\'re definitely rooting for him. He might be like a pair of comfy old slippers, but sometimes that\'s all you need.

Smith Jerrod

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Smith Jerrod The story: When Samantha spotted Smith waiting at a raw food restaurant she went to every length she could to bag him. She waited until the restaurant emptied, and even paid for her competition\'s dinner to get him to herself. Smith was an out of work actor, with the hottest body in the whole TV series, and a one-night stand with Samantha saw him become her one true love. But could he tame the beast?
Pros: As well as being insanely good looking, (Jason Lewis is a male supermodel and has recently been appearing in the aero bubble adverts where he seductively eats chocolate) Smith had a heart of gold. When Samantha got cancer Steve shaved his hair off as a sign of solidarity and sympathy - one of the most romantic and memorable moments in the show\'s history.
Cons: If Smith thought he could tame Samantha he had another thing coming. In the first Sex And The City movie Samantha grew increasingly tired of playing housewife to Smith and waiting for him to come home from shoots. Who knows what\'s going to happen in Sex And The City 2.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: We\'re hoping Smith and Samantha get it back together. Just so that he has lots of screen time in Sex And The City 2.

Steve Brady

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Steve Brady The story: When Miranda and Steve first started dating they seemed like the most unlikely couple. Miranda thought she could take the reins with puppy-eyed Steve, but it became clear she was mistaken when he insisted she say "please" when she demanded another glass of wine. Steve stuck it out and tamed Miranda\'s and the couple had baby Brady, had a break before getting married and then moved themselves to Brooklyn.
Pros: Steve worships the ground Miranda walks on, and gets top points in the boyfriend scores. He\'s easy-going, believes in monogamy (or at least he did until they made him cheat in the first film!) and he\'s happy with who he is. Steve also makes a great Dad - even though when they first had Brady he was worried about accidentally killing the baby.
Cons: Steve\'s not really our cup of tea, as he\'s hardly dating material. He\'s sometimes sickly sweet, and lets Miranda appear to walk all over him. Steve seems to lack in motivation and ambition - and compared to hard-nosed Miranda is a bit of a wallflower.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: Although Steve\'s not the kind of guy we imagined ourselves dating, we\'d be happy to take him off Miranda\'s hands - he\'s just so cute.

Aleksandr Petrovsky

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Aleksandr Petrovsky The story: On a visit to an art gallery Charlotte and Carrie bump into famed Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky. Charlotte is over the moon to have met one of her favourite artists, but Petrovsky pays more attention to Carrie, calling her later in the week to pursue her.
Pros: We loved that Aleksandr managed to make Carrie forget about Big, He even whisked her off to Paris in the final of the last TV season. He seemed like the perfect gentleman.
Cons: Of course, he wasn\'t! Aleksandr had a reputation for being a big player, and has bedded lots of women. He already had a daughter in her 20s, but didn\'t want anymore children so he had a vasectomy. As we got to know Petrovsky, we realised he was a bit in love with himself, and we disliked him even more when he told Carrie she was not his friend, but his lover.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: Aleksandr Petrovsky was our least favourite of Carrie\'s boyfriends. Why would she move to Paris for such an egomaniac? We\'re glad she got shot of him, and we\'re also glad that Big chased her to Paris.

Jack Berger

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Jack Berger The story: Berger and Carrie\'s first date was actually a ‘non-date\' as Berger was already involved with someone else. Carrie stepped in when Berger dropped the other woman, and picked up Carrie. When the pair met at Bobby and Bitsy\'s wedding there was a definite spark.
Pros: Jack Berger is Carrie\'s intellectual counterpart, a funny writer who has a way with words just like Carrie. Their relationship was one of witty banter and common thoughts.
Cons: Berger\'s also extremely competitive, and can\'t stand to see Carrie\'s career go from strength to strength. He\'s got all the words to snare the woman, but does he ever follow through on them? Berger eventually broke up with Carrie on a post-it note, the scoundrel.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: Berger was perfect in every way, he was good-looking, and had common interests with Carrie, but then he had to get all complicated and dump her because he didn\'t feel macho enough with her being the bread-winner. Seriously? In the 2000s?

Trey McDougal

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Trey McDougal The story: Trey met Charlotte when his taxi cab nearly knocked her over on a New York street. It was the stuff that Charlotte\'s dreams were made of. He had pedigree, charm, a country house, lots of money, and dashingly good looks.
Pros: Trey is the kind of man that you can take home to meet your parents without ever worrying that he\'ll show you up.
Cons: After getting married it turned out Trey had some problems in the trouser department, and their marriage spiralled from there. After a brief break-up, Trey finds his mojo again and the couple get back together. Then, as if they haven\'t already had their fair share of problems, the McDougals must contend with Trey\'s nightmare mother, Bunny - who used to sit with him while he was in the bath. Yeah, can you say ‘weirdo\'? The couple\'s struggle to conceive made things even more difficult, and in the end Trey moved back in with his mum.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: We\'re so glad Charlotte got rid of wet fish Trey. He just didn\'t realise what a good thing he had until it was gone.

Harry Goldenblatt

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Harry Goldenblatt The story: Harry met Charlotte when he was her lawyer during her divorce from Trey. Miraculously, the pair got it together.
Pros: Harry and Charlotte have been through a lot. After becoming her second husband, Harry has proven himself as the loving and supporting man we all hoped Trey would become. He helped Charlotte through a miscarriage, and extensive fertility treatments. Then he stood by her side as they adopted a baby girl from China.
Cons: Harry has an incredibly hairy back, which makes us want to vomit. He also likes to stroll around his apartment in the buff, which doesn\'t help with the hairy back/vomit situation.
Handbag.com\'s verdict:
We love Harry! Okay, so we\'re not keen on the back hair, or the baldness (Seriously - why would you have back hair if you\'re that bald?) but we think he\'s the nicest of all the Sex And The City men. If we had to pick one to marry, we\'d choose Harry\'s personality with Aidan\'s looks. Perfect!

Richard Wright

sarah Jessica Parker, kristin davis, men, sex and the city, cynthia nixon, kim cattrall Richard Wright The story: When Samantha met hotel magnate Richard Jones, the sexual sparks went flying. Richard was sexy, wealthy, over-confident and an alpha male and seemed perfect game for Samantha. The seductress didn\'t have a chance when it came to Richard.
Pros: Richard is Samantha in male form, so he\'s perfect for her. The suave businessman first admitted to Samantha that he "likes to sleep around." Like Samantha, Richard knows what he\'s after and he usually gets it. He showered her with expensive gifts, and even began trying to romance Samantha - much to her discomfort. Finally, after taking Ecstasy one night, Samantha was so overcome by emotions she declared her love for him mid-orgasm. Game-player Richard couldn\'t control the situation and soon said the words, "I love you Samantha."
Cons: Richard\'s a player, and will always be a player. Not wanting to let go of his bachelor ways Richard soon had mistresses coming out of his ears. When Samantha confronted him and asked if he was sleeping with another woman he denied it. When she caught him in the act he pleaded, "Its just sex. I love you." Richard achieved what many thought was impossible; he got under Samantha\'s skin and broke her heart.
Handbag.com\'s verdict: Richard\'s the biggest bad boy of the Sex And The City man clan. And we love it! OK, so he\'s not marriage material - but he\'d definitely keep you on your toes.
