Dance troupe Diversity have been crowned winners of Britain's Got Talent, beating bookies' favourite Susan Boyle. During a tense final which saw all 10 finalists give their best performances of the series, the 10-strong east London and Essex dance crew won more public votes, pushing the 48-year-old Scottish singer into second place. Sax man Julian Smith came third while, criminally, father and son comedy dance act Stavros Flatley were not even placed.
Boyle again belted out her famous version of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, but the public voted Diversity - whose performance included a skit on the judges' 'buzzing out' - as worthy winners. Earlier in the evening, Simon Cowell told them, "This is the only performance of the night, if we were giving marks, I would have given a 10. It was sheer and utter perfection." Susan Boyle was gracious in defeat saying "the best act won" adding, "I wish you all the best." Diversity's choreographer, 20-year-old Ashley Banjo told Ant and Dec, "When you said our name I thought I was dreaming. Everyone who has voted - you have changed our lives."
Diversity not only take the title and £100,000 prize money, but also the coveted spot performing in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance in December.
It is estimated up to 20 million people watched the final and that more than a million public votes were cast during the show.
