The 40-year-old former model had been slipping towards showbiz obscurity for the last five years. Having made a name for himself alongside Neve Campbell in US teen drama 'Party of Five', 'Foxy' was supposed to go on to bigger and better things. But it just wasn't happening - until 'Lost'. His character, Dr Jack Shephard, was originally meant to be killed off in the pilot but Matthew was so good, 'Lost' bosses decided they had to keep him in.
Success with the ladies
Despite being mobbed on the street every time he ventures back to the mainland, Matthew is uncomfortable with his heartthrob tag. 'My wife takes the mickey out of the sex symbol stuff,' he says modestly. 'It's flattering, but it's like it's happening to someone else. These last few years have been pretty crazy for me.'
How to woo him
Strip - then swim. Foxy loves to peel off and dive in the sea, and he likes company. 'I have a tendency to take my clothes off and get naked,' he smiles. 'I'm in Hawaii and the water temperature there means if I'm going to go in the water, I'd rather go in without my clothes on. What's wrong with that? It's that moment between taking your clothes off and getting in the water that's kinda fun.'
Eligibility
He met Italian model Margherita at Columbia University and they have been married for 15 years. They have two children, Kyle, eight, and Byron, aged five, but ensure they always make time for each other. 'We make sure we have dinner together every week, usually Saturday night. Or sometimes we'll take little getaway trips just so we can connect,' says Foxy. 'We met when we were both 19 years old, so we've grown up together. Going out just the two of us is important.'
