Starring: Rosario Dawson, Kurt Russell, Quentin Tarantino
Directed by: Quentin Tarantino
(18), 113 mins, 2007, United States
What's the story?
Quentin Tarantino returns with yet another scorcher, this time telling the tale of Stuntman Mike - a deranged, dirty old stuntman with a lust for luscious young lady-blood.
Who's in it?
Kurt Russell is magnificent as the scurrilous stuntman who takes to the road in search of nubile young girls to maim and kill, while all the female leads (including the gorgeous Rosario Dawson) are both incredibly sexy and inspiring as the prey who will not go quietly into the night.
Liking
The story's premise: crazed stuntman stalks young groups of girly girls in order to murder them later, using his ‘death proof' stunt car, enabling him to walk away from crash scenes unharmed and go in search of new victims. Genius.
Loving
The story's crescendo: crazed stuntman picks on the wrong girls.
Not liking
Some might find the early gore-factor a little disturbing, but if you haven't come to expect that kind of thing from a Tarantino movie by now, there's clearly something wrong with you. Besides, the fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants action and fantastic climax more than makes up for the scary stuff.
Who would like this?
Fans of '70s cinema will no doubt enjoy the intentionally aged/damaged look of the film, along with Tarantino's old-school special effects and stunts. Look out for Zoe Bell, who appeared in ‘Kill Bill' as Uma Thurman's stunt double, and now gets the best of both worlds with a starring role and does all her own stunts.
