Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley
Directed by: Gore Verbinski
(12A), 161 mins, 2007, USA
What's the story?
Captain Barbossa and sexy couple Will and Elizabeth head off on a mad journey across the globe. Their aim? To free camp pirate Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones's Locker while loosening the grip pirate-hater Lord Beckett has on the high seas.
Who's the hotty?
That depends on whether it's Johnny or Orlando that floats your boat. If you'd take either you're in for a right treat. The divine Johnny, as Jack Sparrow, is just as hilarious while Orlando is still a bit of a girl's blouse but very pretty with it. If you're a rock chick you'll be loving Keith Richards's brief but amusing appearance as Sparrow Sr. And the lush Keira Knightley's character shows more backbone than the previous two Pirates movies, thankfully.
Best bit?
The script's ridiculously silly sense of humour and, of course, Mr Depp who makes the most of that and adds his own beautifully twisted flights of fancy.
Worst bit?
The convoluted story and its nonsensical plot lines that are shoved into the 168 minute (that's almost three hours, kids) film.
Perfect for...
Some silly Sunday afternoon viewing.
Extras
Deleted scenes, bloopers, and eight fairly entertaining featurettes. We especially liked the one called, Keith & The Captain - On Set With Johnny Depp And The Rock Legend, but that’s mainly because we are in love with both Mr Depp and Mr Richards.
