Starring: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Al Pacino
Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
(PG), 122 mins, 2007, USA
What's the story?
When Danny Ocean's buddy is stitched up by his loathsome casino owner partner Bank, the hip heister gets the gang back together to bring down Bank's Las Vegas joint by rigging it so all and sundry will win big bucks.
Who's the hotty?
Take your pick: are you a Brad Pitt kinda girl or does George Clooney do it for you? Then there's Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and the comedy bit of crumpet, the hilarious Eddie Izzard. Aaaaah, the possibilities...
Who's in it?
Al Pacino, who is at his slimy best, plays the third instalment's bad bad Leroy Brown. Meanwhile, Bernie Mac offers some laughs and old faves Casey Affleck and Andy Garcia return.
Liking...
Not as smug as the second film, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh returns to the tongue in cheek gags that made Ocean's Eleven so much fun. The comedy is fab and the cool characters so likeable it's easy to escort them on their joy ride.
Not liking...
The lack of ladies. Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta Jones are missing - the producer said it was simply because their characters weren't written into this story - and, while the fabulous Ellen Barkin comes on board, she plays Bank's cohort so it's not as if she does loads of sparring with Danny and the boys.
Extras?
Very poor... Two cursory featurettes. Yawn!
Who would like this?
Everyone. It's good old-fashioned entertainment. Slick and funny, it doesn't require too many smarts but the ploys are clever enough to keep you enthralled. Perfect escapism.
