by Dan Cleeve and Zoe Drewitt

It seems the news is all about celebrity arrests these days - along with Amy Winehouse\'s husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have found out they\'re not above the law, and rather than the rock\'n\'roll rebels they probably think they are, they\'re merely just the next in a line of A-list knuckleheads. Meet some of Celebville\'s biggest losers...

R Kelly

r kelly, celebrity, celebrity court case, celebrity arrest R Kelly on trial for child ponography R Kelly was found not guilty of 14 charges of child pornography on 13 June 2008. He had been being accused of making a videotape of him having sex with a girl believed to have been just 13 years old. Jurors in Chicago took less than a day to return their verdict saying the decisive issue was the identity of the alleged victim in the sex tape at the heart of the case. Jurors couldn\'t be sure it was who prosecutors said it was and therefore said they couldn\'t be sure if she was underage. "What we had wasn\'t enough," one member of the jury is quoted as saying. R Kelly\'s spokesman Allen Mayer said, "This has been a terrible ordeal for him and his family. At this point all he wants to do is move forward and try to put it behind him. He\'s gonna have more to say about all this very soon, but for right now he needs a little time to be with his family, to collect himself and get strong again."

Blake Fielder-Civil

On the night of 8 November 2007, singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse\'s husband Blake Fielder-Civil was taken away by police in a dramatic arrest during which the police used a battering ram to break down the door of Amy\'s Camden flat. Blake was due to stand trial for grievous bodily harm to a barman the following week, and the new arrest later led to charges of trying to pervert the course of justice. Blake was refused bail and has been in Pentonville prison since his arrest. Amy was also arrested in connection with the case in December, but was later bailed.  Blake has admitted the assault and attempting to cover it up. Fielder-Civil and three co-defendants plead guilty but a court order barred reporting the pleas because the man they assaulted, landlord James King, is due to face a separate trial. On 21 July 2008 Blake Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months in prison (nine months of which he\'s already served awaiting trial). Amy and Blake had previously been arrested in Norway in October 2007 for possession of cannabis, which meant that she was unable to obtain a US visa to attend the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Pete Doherty

drugs, celebrity gossip, celebrity news Pete Doherty Far more famous for his court appearances than any of his music, Kate Moss’ ex Pete has been in and out of court more times than most of us have had hot dinners. Over the last few years he’s been convicted of charges including burglary, driving without insurance and possession of a chemist’s cupboard worth of drugs. On 8 April 2008, Mr Doherty was sent to Wormwood Scrubs prison for 14 weeks for violating his probation and using drugs. After being given a suspended sentence for possessing drugs and driving illegally in October last year, Kate Moss\' ex was required to give regular progress reports to the court and complete a drug rehab programme. Judge Davinder Lachar handed down the sentence after Doherty missed an appointment with his probation officer and was late for another.

Mel Gibson

criminal offence, rehab,Film, celebrity news Mel Gibson Hollywood star and Apocalypto director Mel Gibson caused a stir in 2006 after being caught drunk driving in Malibu. But what was really shocking was his anti-Semitic tirade against the arresting officers, during which Gibson also came out with the infamous line, "What do you think you\'re looking at, Sugar Tits?" directed at a female cop. After being charged with DUI Mel\'s been offering grovelling apologies ever since. He was given a three-year suspended sentence, a £700 fine and had to go to alcohol rehabilitation. On 14 February 2008 Mel  was told he didn\'t need to appear in court again, the judge said \'You\'re on your own now with the self-help groups, so this is the most difficult time for you. Good luck to you as you continue your rehabilitation.\'

Eminem

Marilyn Manson

criminal offence, nudity, marilyn manson, music, gigs, celebrity news Marilyn Manson Shock rocker extraordinaire Marilyn Manson appeared in court in 2000 after being accused of rubbing his groin on OzzFest security guard Josh Keisler\'s head at a live show. Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, criminal offence, nudity, music,TV,celebrity news Michael Jackson When he agreed to take part in a documentary with Princess Diana interviewer Martin Bashir, Michael Jackson had no idea it would lead to the biggest celebrity trial ever. The TV show shocked the world, showing the superstar holding hands with 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo and admitting to having shared a bed with the boy and others. Jackson was charged with 10 counts of sexual molestation and giving alcohol to a minor and, during the incredible six-month trial that followed, Jackson collapsed, arrived in court in pyjamas and we found out he calls wine "jesus juice"! Though he was found not guilty of all charges against him his career has never recovered and he has serious money troubles ever since.

Russell Crowe

The charge of fourth degree possession of a weapon was made against the Gladiator star for throwing a telephone at a New York hotel concierge after trying unsuccessfully to contact his wife Danielle at home in Australia on the hotel phone. The star got off with a conditional release and paid £50,000 to the injured worker to stop any civil action, small change for someone who is said to earn million per movie.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan, drugs, criminal offence, rehab, celebrity news,it girls Lindsay Lohan Once the goodie-two-shoes star of, erm, movie classics such as The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, Lindsay Lohan turned bad girl in 2007 with two arrests for drugs and driving offences. In May police found a "useable" amount of cocaine in her Mercedes after she crashed the car into a kerb, and in July police responded to a 911 call from the mother of Lindsay\'s PA Michelle Peck, who reported being chased by Lohan. When officers arrived at the scene they found Lindsay having a "heated debate" with Peck and arrested Lindsay for possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic, DUI and driving with a suspended licence. In August it was announced that Lindsay would serve a day in jail, 10 days community service, complete an 18-month alcohol education programme, pay a stack of fines and, perhaps toughest of all, attend a three-day coroner course with victims of drunk drivers and visit a morgue.

OJ Simpson

The jury took less than four hours to reach a unanimous decision in the trial that gripped America for an entire year. In 1997 he was found liable for the murders in a civil suit, and was ordered to pay .5 million in damages. In a bizarre move Goldman\'s family bought the rights to Simpson\'s book entitled \'If I Did It: Confession of the Killer\' after the Simpson family went bankrupt. Simpson is due in court again in September this year charged with kidnapping and robbing two sports memorabilia dealers, so maybe OJ will spend a few years behing bars after all.

Chris Brown

drugs,criminal offence,guns,careers,rehab,nightclubs,chris brown,music,Film,TV,celebrity news,celebrity relationship,rihanna Chris Brown
On 7 April 2009 singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to assaulting and threatening his girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown is accused of punching the Umbrella singer in the face after an argument in his Lamborghini on 8 February. Judge Patricia Schnegg read the charges as assaulting Rihanna “by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury” and of threatening to commit a crime “which would result in death and great bodily injury. The couple reportedly argued after Chris received a text from another woman – they both pulled out of the Grammys the following day.
The With You singer was 25 minutes late for his 3pm appointment amid a flurry of last minute plea bargain rumours and appeared in court for less than 15 minutes. The only words he spoke during his time in the room were, “Not guilty, your honour,” before departing the room surrounded by four bodyguards. Brown faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
While a spokesperson for Brown did not comment, Rihanna’s lawyer Donald Etra confirmed that she was in her native Barbados and would testify if subpoenaed.   Asked directly if his client thought that Brown was guilty Etra said, “Her position on the case is to leave the matters of guilt or innocence to the judge or defence council.”

Phil Spector

drugs, criminal offence, guns, careers, rehab, nightclubs, music,Film,TV,celebrity news, celebrity relationship Phil Spector Legendary American music producer Phil Spector was found guilty of second degree murder of actress Lana Clarkson on 13 April 2009. It was his second trail for the murder after the first was declared a mistrial when jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
Spector, 68, will be sentenced on 29 May and faces a minimum of 18 years in prison. Spector is regarded as one of the most influential figures in pop music history, having worked with artists such as the Righteous Brothers and the Beatles. In the 1960s he produced tracks such as Da Doo Ron Ron, Be My Baby and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.

Lana Clarkson was found dead in the lobby of Spector’s LA home in the early hours of 3 February, 2003. The jury found that Spector murdered Miss Clarkson with a single shot to the mouth, hours after he had met her at the Hollywood nightclub where she worked and asked her back to his home.
Defence lawyers claimed that Clarkson, 40, a struggling actress and best known for her role in cult classic The Barbican Queen, had killed herself in an “accidental suicide”. The prosecution maintained that Spector, who had a fascination with guns, shot Clarkson when she attempted to leave his house.
Lana’s relatives released a statement saying, “The family is pleased the jury rejected the distortion and trashing of Lana Clarkson’s life. There’s no joy today. This is tragic but actions have consequences.” Clarkson’s mother is expected to press ahead with a wrongful death suit against the music producer.

Jack Tweed

drugs, criminal offence, guns, careers, rehab, nightclubs, music,Film,TV,celebrity news, celebrity relationship, jade goody Jack Tweed court Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweed was jailed for 12 weeks on 14 April 2009 for assaulting a taxi driver.

The sentence comes just weeks after Tweed’s reality TV star wife Jade Goody died of cancer. Tweed, 21, from Buckhurst Hill Essex denied attacking Stephen Wilkins in Epping, Essex in May 2008, but was found guilty last month.

The court heard that Tweed became aggressive after being asked to pay the taxi fare in advance and grabbed Mr Wilkins in a headlock and threatened to stab him. Tweed told police that he had been drinking all day before going to a club where he drank 10 vodka and Red Bull drinks plus a “couple of shots”. He claimed to have no memory of the taxi journey but doubted that he would have behaved in the way Mr Wilkins described.

He appeared at Harlow Magistrates’ Court for sentencing and during the hearing his lawyer said that Mr Tweed had matured since the incident. The attack took place while Jack was on bail for a separate offence of hitting a 16-year-old boy with a golf club. Although Tweed denied the previous offence, he was jailed for 18 months in September last year after being found guilty following the trial.

His lawyer Tania Panagiotopoulou, mitigating, had appealed for magistrates not to impose an immediate jail term. She said Tweed was “extremely regretful”. She added, “To say that he is a changed man since May 2008 is perhaps an understatement. He has endured, with dignity and maturity, very difficult personal circumstances that have been well-documented.” Margaret Webb, chairman of the magistrates, told Tweed the bench had considered his “change in personal circumstances” in passing the sentence. Tweed was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £455 and £200 to Mr Wilkins.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse, drugs, criminal offence, guns, careers, rehab, nightclubs, music,Film,TV,celebrity news, celebrity relationship, celebrity court case Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse appeared in court on the 23 July 2009 charged with punching dancer Sherene Flash at a charity event in Berkley Square London in September 2008. Flash claimed the singer – who should added appeared to be drunk or “on drugs or something” - hit her in the eye when she tried to have her picture with  her. Needless to say Amy told a different story. Winehouse denied the charge and said she pushed the woman away because she was scared of her. “She moved her left arm to lean down and tried to pose next to me. Her friend came round the front and started taking a picture. I was like, “Do I get a choice in this, hello?” I pushed her up, like away,” Amy explained. “It was more like an indication of “leave me alone, I’m scared of you. I’m not Mickey Mouse – I’m a human being.”  The court was also played a recording of Miss Flash’s call to police following the alleged attack. When asked who assaulted her, the tearful dancer replies, “Amy Winehouse of all f****** people.”

Steven Gerrard

drugs, criminal offence, guns, careers, rehab, nightclubs, music,Film,TV,celebrity news, celebrity relationship, celebrity court case Steven Gerrard Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard has been found not guilty of affray.
A Liverpool court today found Steven Gerrard not guilty of affray for his part in a brawl in a Merseyside bar in December 2008. The Liverpool captain was accused of attacking Marcus McGee, a 34-year-old businessman, after a row over music at the Lounge Inn in Southport Merseyside. The 29-year-old was out with friends in the early hours of December 29, celebrating Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Newcastle. Gerrard’s five co-defendants pleaded guilty, leaving the footballer to face trial alone. Gerrard admitted hitting Mr McGee and apologised for lashing out, but denied losing control. Gerrard denied affray and said he was acting in self-defence. “I couldn’t understand why the guy had such a problem with me, why he was so aggressive,” Gerrard  explained. “I was also concerned that if I did leave it I would not have been able to enjoy my night; he may have come over to me. Very quickly he came off the bar stool and was in my face right by me.” The Liverpool jury accepted Gerrard’s explanation. His six friends are due to be sentenced at a later date, for their different crimes.
