Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

Lead guitarist and main songwriter Noel Gallagher has announced he has left Oasis.

The future of brit-pop stalwarts Oasis is in doubt after main man Noel Gallagher announced he has left the band, saying he could no longer work with his brother Liam. "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight," Noel explained in statement on the band's website. "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer. Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan." The band, who were in the final dates of a 12-month tour, were due to play at Paris' Rock en Seine festival on Friday, but cancelled at the last minute. The Gallaghers have always had a difficult relationship but recently things appeared to have worsened. In a recent interview with NME magazine Liam admitted he rarely spoke to his Noel, they no longer travelled together and only saw each other on stage. "He doesn't like me and I don't like him, that's it," Liam admitted.

However, Alan McGee, who discovered the band in 1993, admitted this recent fall out was, "more serious than anything that's ever happened", but told the BBC he believed they would reunite in the future. "It's obviously the worst fall-out that they've ever had, and they've had some pretty bad ones," McGee explained. "This is a pretty serious one. But they love each other, they'll come back together. I think you'll have a reunion tour in about five-years time. They love each other. When people love each other, they'll always make peace."
