British '60s icon Julie Christie won the award for Best Actress for her touching portrayal of a woman with Alzheimer's in Away From Her. Julie referred to the writer's strike in her acceptance speech, saying, "It's lovely to receive an award from your own union, especially at a time when we're being so forcefully reminded how important unions are."
