Gordon Ramsay apologises

Super-chef Gordon Ramsay has apologised for calling an Australian TV presente an “ugly old pig”.

Gordon Ramsay has been forced to apologise for insulting a TV host after drawing criticism from Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Ramsay was alleged to have called A Current Affair host Tracey Grimshaw "a lesbian" - a claim he denies - and an "ugly old pig" at the Melbourne Good Food and Wine Show. Grimshaw herself was the first to respond. "I'm not going to sit meekly and let some arrogant narcissist bully me," she explained on her show. "Obviously Gordon thinks that any woman that doesn't find him attractive must be gay. For the record, I don't and I'm not." Prime Minister Rudd then took aim at the chef. "All I could describe his remarks as reflecting is a new form of low life," he said. "I just think that's off and offensive. Good on Tracy Grimshaw for coming out and giving him a left upper cut." But Gordon's insisted the matter is a storm in a teacup, "it's blown out of context," he said adding, "I never ever once used the word lesbian." A spokesman joined in the apologies. "His comments relating to Tracy Grimshaw, who had interviewed Gordon the previous evening, were off the cuff and in response to heckling from the audience," they explained in a statement to press. "His intention was to make a joke and indeed he did raise a big laugh at the time. However, with hindsight he realises that his comments were inappropriate and offensive to Tracy Grimshaw. And he has unreservedly apologised both to her and anybody else who may have been upset."
