When the sun comes out, we hip hoorah and show off our bods but don’t let scaly skin spoil your summer look. The Handbag.com team tried and tested the latest creams for dry skin to find our favourite five.

Darphin Body Balm for Dry Skin - Tried and testedDarphin Lipid-Replenishing Soothing Balm for Dry and Sensitive Skin

More of a cream than a balm, this was a delight to use as it smelt of summer and sunk straight into my skin. The scent of flowers came lingering off my skin, making me feel feminine and pretty, but if you prefer creams unscented, this may not be ideal. The ingredients are seriously moisturising - like shea butter, vitamin E and Liquorice & Mimosa Extracts - and the consistency thick and so easily absorbed, I was impressed.

Elle McPherson Honey Butter - Tried and testedElle Macpherson Nourishing Honey Butter

This was the perfect ‘wake-up and face-the-day' cream as the scent was absolutely heavenly! The lime and honey combination makes for an irresistible fresh scent that really lasts on skin and I even found myself opening the jar just to have a sniff whenever I was in the bathroom! While I'd prefer a richer cream that absorbs more quickly, it did an adequately nourishing job. A little goes a long way though as the tub is huge so it's definitely a bargain buy and will last ages. I would happily buy this again.

£9.95, available exclusively at Boots nationwide

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Body Treatment - Tried and testedElizabeth Arden Eight Hour Intensive Moisturising Body Treatment

This was an excellent find! The cream was white and smelt light - not like the 8-hour face cream - and the consistency medium. It went on really really easily and actually did make my skin feel super soft all day - for up to 12 hours! The only problem was that it didn't go very far, so lots of cream is needed for a small area of body. At that price however it becomes more of an intensive treat as opposed to a daily slathering, but brilliant, nonetheless.

Aven Body Lotion with cold cream - Tried and tested Avene Cold Cream

It may not be the most glamorous contender, but the results are worthwhile. A little goes a very long way as a small squirt covered quite a lot of skin area. It smelt slightly medicinal but that was nice as you knew it was working and the medium thickness moisturised and worked really well.

Elemis Body Cream - Tried and tested Elemis Pro-Collagen Radiantly Smooth Body Cream

Being an Elemis fan, I immediately fell in love with this product. The big, luxuriously packaged pot houses a cream that smells utterly divine. The thick creamy consistency glides on like satin and sinks in super quick so no wandering around like a Yeti waiting for it to dry. I've been slathering it on my legs in preparation for summer pins but at such a price, I think I might start rationing it!
