Trend setting - Victoriana

Time is up for the bronzed, cali-tans of the summer as autumn/winter catwalks were teeming with snowy-white faces and toned down hues. This Victoriana look is subdued and subtle but it's all in the prep work as well as the final finish - here we show you how...

When skin is the focus, it's time to get back to basics. A good regime, particularly in winter, is a must! For a crystal clear complexion, get ultra cleansing, especially if you live in the city as the daily build-up of pollution and grime can lead to blemishes and break-outs - no good for a delicate Victoriana face. Garnier Clean Detox range has been formulated to clean-up skin and purify pores with added green mint and Vitamin E to nourish and soften. The Exfoliation Wash, £4.99 is particularly good at sloughing off the day's make-up and dirt, so get scrubbing!

This look may be pale and pallid, but flaky it is not. So as the air begins to bite outside, trade up skin essentials, to include more nourishing and comforting ingredients. L'Oréal Paris Derma Genesis Serum Concentrate, £19.99 has added Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural compound already present in the skin but helps skin retain water and stay hydrated.

[quote]Now for that lady-like luxe that was so popular from Chanel to Cacharel. For this trend, swap dewy or illuminating foundations and concealers for creamy, matte products. Use a primer if you have one as it will create a shine-free, even canvas to apply foundation on. Cream-to-powder finishes are great, or try a mineral foundation, such as L'Oréal Paris True Match Minerals, £13.99 for added benefits of skin-friendly minerals. Alternatively, try Maybelline New York's Dream Matte Mouse, £6.99 as the air-whipped formula will give a weightless, silky feel. Maybelline New York have now used this great formula to create Dream Mousse Concealer, boasting the same air-whipped softness while also giving great coverage. Or sonceal blemishes and under-eye darkness with a mattifying concealer like L'Oréal Paris Infallible Concealer, £5.49, which has a creamy coverage teamed with maximum staying power.

Finally, for some lady-like powdering, think vintage-esque ladies who lunch with nose-powdering compacts. Keep shine at bay with a dab of powder from L'Oréal Paris True Match Powder compact, £6.99, which has a translucent finish that can be built up for a heavier coverage. If wearing a colourless face is too much bare, use a neutral blush with just a hint of colour for light, hazy hue. Maybelline New York ExpertWear in Sierra Sand  £4.49 would be ideal. Lightly dust over apples of cheeks to finish that virgin-vintage look.
