Trend-setting - Return to Glamour

Gucci return to glamour get the look with loreal

On the catwalk runways from Gavin Douglas to Gucci, models strutted down showing off Veronica Lake style waves and old-Hollywood make-up. Scarlett Johansonn is a pro at this look but even the young LA beauties like Jessica Biel and Mischa Barton are giving it a go. If the whole ensemble is a little too adventurous, try adopting one or two of the elements and make your day a little more glamorous.

Face facts
Makeup is strong but not overpowering. Foundation base should offer an even, flawless coverage - something like Maybelline New York Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, £6.99, blends easily and has a matte finish. A light nude blush like L'Oréal Paris Blush Delicieux in Honey, £6.99 can be blended over cheeks or used to sculpt a striking screen-siren stare - just use a small-medium contouring brush and blend downwards, along the lower cheek line.

Wow brows and eye magic
Brows are back girls, so it's time to put the tweezers down and get growing. Yes, that's right; it's the only way to get some depth back into brows but if the thought of a tweezer-less life is too much to imagine then get a good eyebrow pencil and get drawing - stand-out brows is one make-up moment everyone should try. For a sultry slick of ‘50s liner, L'Oréal Paris Superliner, £5.99 will create fine flicks or thicker, stand-out lines, effortlessly and smudge-free. Follow with a slick of Maybelline New York Define-a-Lash Mascara, £7.49, with a clever separating and defining brush that bends with your lashes.

Lip treatment
Now to the lips. For established lippie-lovers this high impact pout will be a cinch. Concealer over the lip line will create an even canvas to work on then using a lip brush, colour in lips with the red shade of your choice - L'Oréal Paris's Color Riche Star Secrets in Penelope Red, £7.99 is an intense, rich colour perfect for this high octane look. Match a lip liner, (L'Oréal Paris Contour Parfait in Burgundy, £4.29 will be ideal with Penelope Red) and gently sketch along the lip line (but not too harshly). Layer another coat of lipstick with the lip brush and blend the two together. For an alternative take (especially good for lipstick virgins), apply a smudge of deep red lippie to the centre of lips and blot together. This touch of colour is a nod to the trend without scaring non-lippie wearers away.

Crowning glory
Any hair can be styled more glamorously, as long as you have the right tools and tricks at hand. Prep before styling with a styling spray or mousse like Garnier Fructis Body & Volume Mousse, £2.99 and then blow-dry 90% dry with a fat brush, nice and sleekly. For this ‘40s inspired look, wrap rollers into 2-3inch sections of hair and roll up to the middle of each section - the top should stay straight - and leave until dry. Blast with hot then cold air and release rollers gently. Run fingers through hair to loosen curls, and add a touch of finishing smoothing cream or simply spritz with Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Hairspray, £2.99 to keep curls sleek and sexy. A modern-day take on classic, screen-siren glamour.
